Smiths Detection Wins TSA Approval for Air Cargo X-ray Screening System
PINE BROOK, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Smiths Detection today announces its HI-SCAN 100100T-2is X-ray system has been placed on Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) List of Candidate Air Cargo Screening Technologies. With a total of seven systems on the list, including explosives trace detectors and X-ray systems, Smiths Detection offers airlines, freight forwarders and indirect air carriers more approved security screening solutions than any other company.
Mark Laustra, Vice President of Homeland Security, Smiths Detection, said: “Our market-leading security solutions enable the screening of air cargo from break-bulk small packages to large pallets. We back up our products with the world’s largest support and training team, which is vital to keep commerce moving.”
Since 2006, Smiths Detection has worked with its customers to help prepare for the initial TSA air cargo screening mandate which took effect in February 2009.
Laustra added: “Our equipment will help our partners minimize the impact of the mandate and efficiently move cargo thereby maintaining profitability.”
Smiths Detection’s HI-SCAN X-ray solutions provide superior image quality, enabling air cargo operators to effectively screen for threats in a full range of containers. The company’s desktop and handheld trace detection devices quickly screen for microscopic amounts of explosives. Smiths Detection has won more than $14 million in contracts for its air cargo security solutions, combining explosives trace detection (ETD) and X-ray inspection systems.
Smiths Detection air cargo screening solutions include explosives trace detectors (IONSCAN 400B, IONSCAN 500DT, SABRE 4000) and X-ray systems (HI-SCAN 100100T-2is, HI-SCAN 6040aTiX, HI-SCAN 180180-2is and HI-SCAN 10080EDtS).
