Welch Allyn Lighting Products Increases Aircraft Reading Lamp Lifetimes
SKANEATELES FALLS, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Welch Allyn Lighting Products, the premier manufacturer of aircraft halogen reading lamps, has extended the lifetimes of three models of its halogen reading lamps for Airbus, Boeing and ATR aircraft. In some cases, the lamps feature lifetime ratings of up to 10,000 hours, around 20 percent longer than the previous generation. As an added customer benefit, Welch Allyn is also offering an extended express warranty on many of its reading lamp models.
“As part of ongoing quality enhancement, Welch Allyn has improved the processing method for our aircraft reading lamps. As a result, we’ve been able to extend the lifetime ratings for three of our lamps,” said Doug Rutan, Welch Allyn marketing manager. “We’re now pleased to offer improved models that feature up to 20 percent longer lifetimes. Since it is costly to change out failed reading lamps, this could significantly lower aircraft owners’ annual spend for maintenance. And for even more value, we’re backing up these lamps, along with several other models, with an extended express warranty.”
Welch Allyn’s improved aircraft reading lamps are part numbers 998502-4 (ANSI 2059X), 998502-8 (ANSI 2059) and 998502-18. Lamps 998502-4 and 998502-8 are original equipment on Boeing 777 and 747-400 aircraft. The lifetime rating for these two models is now 10,000 hours. Lamp 998502-18 is a replacement for 8GH005678-06. It is FAA-PMA approved for Airbus models A319, A320, A321, A330, A340 and ATR 42/72. Lamp 998502-18 is now rated at 6,000 hours. The new lifetime ratings apply to lamps produced beginning in June 2009.
Welch Allyn’s extended express warranty extends from the date of manufacture through as long as 24 months for some models. The warranty applies if the lamp fails to operate or burns out within the warranty period. The warranty is available on popular selected part numbers.
In addition to long life, all Welch Allyn replacement reading lamps feature the high-brightness output and color consistency ideal for aircraft interiors. They are also constructed of optical-quality glass, enabling aircraft maintenance personnel to change the lamps without having to wear gloves. Welch Allyn offers aircraft reading lamps through LaSalle Electric Supply Company, the world’s foremost distributor of aircraft lamps (www.lasalleelectric.com).
