Latest Wines from Chandelle Toast 40th Anniversary of the Apollo Moon Landing

SONOMA VALLEY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--To salute the 40th Anniversary of the first manned landing on the Moon by the crew of Apollo 11 on July 20, 1969, Chandelle of Sonoma offers a new aviation edition labeled wine, Apollo 11.

The artwork for the new label, depicting the dramatic separation, above the Lunar surface, of the Apollo Command Module Columbia and the Lunar Module Eagle, created by famed aviation artist Keith Ferris, is now available on bottles of Chandelle’s Gold Medal Winning 2004 Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon wine. See it at www.chandellewinery.com.

This new Chandelle wine release was debuted and served in Dayton, Ohio at the National Aviation Hall of Fame’s Annual President’s Dinner on July 17, 2009. There the presentation of the 2009 Milton Caniff “Spirit of Flight” Award went to all the Apollo Crews. Thirteen former Apollo crewmen including Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, Jim Lovell and Gene Cernan, were on hand to accept and take part in a panel discussion moderated by former ABC News anchor David Hartman

This Apollo 11 label edition will be available only from Chandelle for a short period of time. Since the total bottling of Chandelle wines of all aviation editions is under 2,000 cases per year, this will be a collector’s item as well as a great wine to drink and to share with friends. To place an order, call toll-free 800-544-8890. Online ordering is available at www.chandellewinery.com.

Chandelle is a longtime supporter of the mission of the National Aviation Hall of Fame and through the summer of 2009, a portion of the proceeds from Apollo edition wine purchased on line from Chandelle will be donated to the NAHF to aid their programs.

Since 1986 Chandelle’s Spirit of Flight Wine Collection has held a unique niche in the wine industry by bottling award-winning wines labeled with aviation art. Chandelle’s wines are available online or at the winery’s tasting room, the Cellar Door, in Sonoma, California.

Chandelle Winery is owned and operated by Robert and Kathy Arnold. The Arnold Family’s roots in the history of flight start in 1911 when family patriarch Five Star General and aviation pioneer Hap Arnold learned to fly at the Wright Brother’s school in Dayton, Ohio. General Arnold capped his career as Commanding General of the US Army Air Force during World War II. Chandelle Winery is located in California’s Sonoma Valley Wine Country where Hap Arnold retired after the War.

Robert is enthusiastic about the quality of his premium Chandelle wines: "Our 2004 Gold Medal Cabernet Sauvignon (red wine) has rich berry flavors with a smooth silky finish. We are pleased that our wines are selected over and over again for gifts from individuals and companies as well as for events like the National Aviation Hall of Fame Induction Dinner every July in Dayton, Ohio."

Keith Ferris is the premier American aviation artist and a longtime friend of Chandelle’s owners, the Arnold family. Over the years Chandelle has featured a number of his works on their wines, including The Centennial of Flight limited edition released by Chandelle in 2003.

* Chandelle is an aviation term used to describe a 180-degree change in direction and an increase in altitude. This maneuver is a standard test of aircraft performance and pilot skill. As in wine making, it requires a smooth touch on the "stick and rudder."
