Horizon Air Plane in University of Washington Livery to Fly Over Husky Stadium Oct. 24

--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Horizon Air:

WHEN: Saturday, Oct. 24, at 12:30 p.m. Pacific time

WHAT: Horizon Air will perform a low level fly by of its Bombardier Q400 turboprop plane painted in University of Washington livery just before kickoff of the Washington vs. Oregon game at Husky Stadium. This is one of five game over flights scheduled for each of Horizon’s university livery aircraft.

WHERE: Husky Stadium, Seattle, Washington. The game will be broadcast on ABC, check local listings.

  • PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES: Members of the media are invited to film/photograph the aircraft as it flies by Husky Stadium. The aircraft will make two passes. The first pass will be off the north end of the stadium, flying from east to west, affording those in the south side of the stadium a first class view. The aircraft will then turn and fly by the south side of the stadium in a west to east direction so the north side of the stadium can have a view. On its way out of the Seattle area the plane will then fly directly over the stadium as a farewell.

  • "This is one of the most ambitious promotions we've ever done," says Dan Russo, vice president, Marketing and Communications. "It will generate a lot of excitement around our partnerships with these schools and strengthen Horizon's brand as 'Wings of the Great Northwest.'"

FACTS:

  • In December 2007, Horizon announced plans to paint four aircraft in university liveries as a tribute to the venerable public institutions that share a home with Horizon’s Pacific Northwest home. In December 2008, Horizon announced it would add a Boise State livery plane to the fleet in the 2009.
  • There are five planes – Oregon, Oregon State, Washington, Washington State and, on Nov. 8, 2009, Boise State will join the fleet. Oregon and Washington State have already had football game over flights. Oregon State is scheduled for Oct. 31 and BSU will be Nov. 14.
  • The Husky plane was brand new when painted and as such would have been painted regardless of paint scheme. No expense was incurred by the university.
  • The goal of the project was to put an element of fun into the flying experience while also putting a smile on the faces of university alumni, staff and students.
  • The original Husky plane was unveiled on Feb. 19, 2008.
  • The Husky plane is Bombardier Q400. These 76-seat turboprop aircraft are the workhorses of Horizon air, using 30-40 percent less fuel and reducing emissions by the same percent than comparable sized jets.
    • Horizon operates 37 of these aircraft.
    • Horizon has been operating this aircraft since February 2001.
  • Horizon has been serving Seattle since its first day as an airline in September 1981.

Horizon serves 48 cities throughout Arizona, California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Baja California Sur (Mexico), and British Columbia and Alberta (Canada). Together, Horizon Air and Alaska Airlines serve more than 90 cities and are subsidiaries of Alaska Air Group, Inc. (NYSE:ALK).
