Dépèche transmise le 11 août 2010 par PRNewswire
FRANKFURT, August 11, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Fraport AG's Frankfurt Airport home base welcomed 5,281,632 passengers in July 2010 - exceeding the 5.2 million passenger mark for the first time in a single month. This topped the previous record of July 2007 by nearly 90,000 passengers. Compared to last year, 7.7 percent more passengers used the FRA international air transportation hub.
"Our latest passenger figures impressively show that we are not only performing well compared to the 2009 crisis year but that traffic demand at Frankfurt Airport is stronger than ever," explained Fraport executive board chairman Dr. Stefan Schulte. A new historical daily record was reached in the reporting month when FRA served 183,663 passengers on July 31, 2010. Thus, the previous daily record of 182,259 passengers on September 29, 2000, was finally broken after nine years and ten months.
Handling 188,244 metric tons of airfreight in July 2010, FRA registered a new monthly record and a 20.4 percent year-on-year increase. Aircraft movements also climbed by 3.9 percent over July 2009 to 42,028 takeoffs and landings. Passenger and airfreight figures also had an impact on accumulated maximum takeoff weights (MTOWs), which rose by about 16,000 metric tons over the previous record month of August 2005 to more than 2.52 million metric tons. MTOWs in July 2010 grew by 5.3 percent year-on-year.
The positive traffic trend was also stabilizing at Fraport's five majority-owned airports in July 2010. Combined, these airports accounted for approximately 10.5 million passengers handled by the Fraport Group - an increase of 11.7 percent compared to the same month last year.
Looking at the specific airports, Antalya (AYT) in Turkey achieved a 16.2 percent increase to 3.4 million passengers. Lima (LIM) in Peru saw traffic surge by 19.4 percent year-on-year to 923,381 passengers. Burgas (BOJ) and Varna (VAR) airports on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast were used by 567,260 and 288,953 passengers respectively. This represented growth in passenger traffic of 13.6 percent at BOJ and of 7.2 percent at VAR.
