DHL Los Angeles Station Receives Accreditation as Qualified Envirotainer Provider

MIAMI--(BUSINESS WIRE)--DHL, the world's leading logistics company, announces their Los Angeles (LAX) station has received accreditation as a Qualified Envirotainer Provider (QEP). It is among several DHL stations to be QEP accredited this year. As the largest forwarder of Envirotainer containers - manufactured air cargo containers used for temperature sensitive shipments - DHL Global Forwarding is an industry leader in this specialized service area. The LAX station was able to complete within a span of three months the QEP training, documentation and audit, and thereby gaining Envirotainers quality endorsement for DHL Global Forwarding’s station to carry out shipments in Envirotainer containers.

“We can confidently say that we apply all of the QEP training and quality guidelines to the cargo we handle.”

The LAX station transports temperature and time sensitive Life Sciences and Healthcare industry medications from some of the world’s top Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical customers, for the treatment of various life-threatening diseases. The 190,000 sq. foot station has approximately 70,000 sq. feet dedicated to exports mainly shipped to Egypt, Guatemala, India and Russia. With over 15 years working with Life Science customers at LAX, DHL leads the development of cold chain solutions, including temperature controlled package handling, in-transit visibility to shipments and best-in-class controlled environments for cold chain storage.

“We understand this sector requires special handling and as industry innovators we offer the expertise that allows us to serve customers with confidence,” said Angelos P. Orfanos, president Life Sciences & Healthcare, DHL. “Our Los Angeles station manages multiple Envirotainer shipments of Life Sciences products monthly, and we know this is a big responsibility, which is why we have taken the extra step to become QEP accredited to demonstrate our commitment to the industry.”

Envirotainer, pioneers of active temperature-controlled air cargo containers, launched its QEP/ CEP Training and Quality Program at the request of shippers of healthcare products and in response to industry guidance. The program acknowledges those service providers capable of properly managing shipments using Envirotainer containers. It confirms providers meet their obligations as defined in the current Good Distribution Practices (GDP) guidance documents, including the requirements of the Parenteral Drug Association (PDA) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

“We are very proud to be an Accredited Qualified Envirotainer Provider because it shows we take our obligation to properly manage all Envirotainer container shipments we transport seriously,” said Shari Austin, special accounts coordinator for DHL Global Forwarding. “We can confidently say that we apply all of the QEP training and quality guidelines to the cargo we handle.”

DHL Global Forwarding currently has a total of 17 dedicated Life Science Competence Centers worldwide comprised of dedicated people, customized processes, and a quality controlled environment specifically for shipping of pharmaceutical, biotech and medical devices. It is planned to increase the number of Competence Centers to 37 by the end of this year.
