BAE Systems Forms Strategic Alliance with Dennis Eagle on New Hybrid Refuse Trucks

BIRMINGHAM, United Kingdom--(BUSINESS WIRE)--BAE Systems has entered into an agreement with Dennis Eagle, the UK market leader in the refuse collection vehicle (RCV) industry, to integrate a heavy duty hybrid electric propulsion system into one of their low-entry cab vehicles. The newly formed alliance will perform a field trial programme during 2011 with a view to Dennis Eagle offering HybriDrive® powered vehicles to the market commencing Q4 of 2012. This alliance will introduce the use of BAE Systems HybriDrive parallel system into the European RCV market and represents the first phase of a broader strategic initiative to address a range of heavy-duty truck vocations that will also include construction, and package and delivery. The latest member of the BAE Systems HybriDrive family complements and draws upon the company’s proven HybriDrive series system, currently deployed in over 3,000 transit buses across North America and Europe.

“We are pleased to be selected by Dennis Eagle to provide HybriDrive propulsion systems for their RCV family, broadening our expansion in the hybrid vehicle market”

The new HybriDrive parallel system will deliver significant environmental benefits associated with lower emissions, reduced fuel consumption and less noise pollution to the end-users and their communities.

“We are pleased to be selected by Dennis Eagle to provide HybriDrive propulsion systems for their RCV family, broadening our expansion in the hybrid vehicle market,” said Dr. Mike Mekhiche, programme director of power and energy management for BAE Systems. “Both companies are leaders in our respective markets and our alliance will maximise our respective synergies, bringing a high performance product and all the associated environmental and economic benefits to the RCV market.”

Dennis Eagle managing director Norman Thoday said, “By entering into a strategic alliance with a leading systems integrator such as BAE Systems, we will be able to significantly enhance our product offering by providing our customers and end users with all the advantages of reduced fuel consumption, lower emissions, lower acoustic pollution and improved vehicle drivability. BAE Systems not only has the systems expertise pedigree through its involvement with other leading organisations and established partnerships, it has proven, mature and reliable propulsion and power management technology for commercial hybrid electric propulsion systems.”

BAE Systems has formed similar relationships with leading Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) in the transit bus market for our HybriDrive series product, with companies such as Alexander Dennis and Iveco in Europe and Daimler Bus North America and New Flyer in the United States.

BAE Systems has been producing hybrid propulsion systems for city transit buses since 2003. Buses equipped with BAE Systems’ HybriDrive series system have travelled more than 200 million miles and transported more than a billion passengers in cities across the UK and North America that include London, Manchester, Oxford, New York, San Francisco, Toronto, Ottawa, Houston and Seattle.

Please come and visit our stand at the Birmingham Commercial Vehicle 2011 Show in Hall 5, Stand 5G24 where we will be exhibiting our HybriDrive® parallel propulsion system for the heavy-duty vocational truck market.
