Hostile Fire Indicator flight tests. BAE Systems will describe its work to protect military helicopters from small-arms fire. Program manager Damon Swope will explain the company’s acoustic hostile-fire indicator technology and recent progress in developing an HFI solution for military customers. While most aircraft have missile-warning and countermeasures systems, they remain vulnerable to small arms. BAE Systems’ solution combines acoustic data, noise reduction, and location algorithms with information from existing sensors to provide multiple indications of hostile fire. During recent flight tests, this technology detected and declared, in real time, the location and trajectory of hostile fire from a variety of weapons.
