De La Rue Announces Plans for the Roll out of ePassports in Cameroon
Dépèche transmise le 27 avril 2011 par PRNewswire
LONDON, April 27, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Following the successful delivery of the Machine Readable Passport (MRP) and a relationship with the Government spanning more than 20 years, De La Rue Identity Systems today announces plans for the roll out of almost half a million Cameroon ePassports over the next 3 years. This latest announcement further strengthens De La Rue's position as the identity solutions partner of choice across Africa and the rest of the World.
Developed in partnership with the customer, this latest phase of the Cameroon Government's identity solutions roadmap will see the launch of a new and fully ICAO compliant ePassport and an upgrade to the document management and issuance system powered by De La Rue's MIDISTM technology. The solution will also incorporate the installation of De La Rue's SIPSTM 500e automated personalisation system for chip encoding, data-page printing and the application of a highly secure MLIS(TM) thin film laminate specifically designed to protect the holder's personal details from alteration, counterfeit or fraud.
To ensure migration from the MRP to the ePassport is carried out quickly, securely and with minimal risk or disruption to the Cameroon Government or its citizens, a fully tailored project management and transition plan has been agreed. Key components of this process utilise De La Rue's local knowledge combined with global expertise, training and skill transfer to locally employed system operators.
James Thorburn, Managing Director, De La Rue Identity Systems commented, "De La Rue Identity Systems has a proven track record in Africa, working alongside 20 governments and most recently delivering identity management solutions with Rwanda, Senegal and Sierra Leone. Following on from the successful implementation of the UK ePassport service delivery project, we are pleased to announce our ongoing partnership with Cameroon and agreement on the implementation plans for their new ePassport programme."
Calum Bunney, an e-ID Solutions Consultant from De La Rue, will be presenting on 27 April at the e-Gov Africa Forum in Yaounde, Cameroon. De La Rue's presentation looks at effective identity solutions that make a positive contribution to long-term national development across the African region.
