Pall Wins $14 Million Centrisep® Order for U.S. Army CH-47 Helicopters
PORT WASHINGTON, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Pall Corporation (NYSE:PLL), a global leader in filtration, separation and purification, has been awarded a contract by the United States Army to supply its Centrisep® engine advanced protection system (EAPS) for 59 Boeing CH-47 Chinook helicopters in the U.S. military fleet. This order is valued at approximately $14 million. Shipments will begin in December 2011 and be completed by November 2012.
“The Centrisep EAPS provides critical protection for personnel and aircraft by preventing airborne contamination that can cause engine failure and by enhancing safety, reliability, availability, and performance.”
The Boeing CH-47 Chinook has been a mainstay of the U.S. Army's helicopter fleet since its original deployment to Vietnam in the early 1960s. The helicopter is principally used for the movement of troops, artillery, ammunition, fuel, water, supplies and equipment on the battlefield. It is also used for disaster relief, medical evacuations, fire fighting, parachute drops, and search and rescue. A central element in the Gulf War, CH-47s continue to be the standard for the U.S. Army in the global campaign against terrorism.
Pall’s Centrisep® EAPS is designed to protect CH-47 helicopter engines from particle erosion by continuously separating dust and sand from inlet air. This is especially critical when operating the helicopter in harsh desert environments, where sand, dust and other damaging particles can quickly erode unprotected engines, resulting in power loss or failure. The Pall EAPS also effectively preserves the life of the helicopter’s engines. In addition, the Boeing CH-47 Chinook helicopter employs a wide range of Pall products for its hydraulic, transmission, engine lubrication, and fuel filtration systems.
“Pall’s filtration technology has been an integral part of the helicopter fleet for the U.S. Army as well as our allies using this workhorse helicopter,” said Jim Western, president, Pall Aeropower. “The Centrisep EAPS provides critical protection for personnel and aircraft by preventing airborne contamination that can cause engine failure and by enhancing safety, reliability, availability, and performance."
