Referentia Opens Hawaii’s First Cyber Collaboration Center

HONOLULU--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Referentia Systems, an award-winning advanced cybersecurity solutions leader headquartered in Honolulu, Hawaii, announced today the opening of its new Cyber Collaboration Center which will focus on cybersecurity initiatives critical for advancing the Defense, Energy, Healthcare, Transportation, and Financial sectors and other national critical infrastructures. The Center will foster collaboration with academic, government and industry partners to develop effective advanced cybersecurity solutions to address the growing severity of cyber threats aimed at destabilizing and preventing much-needed modernization of national and global infrastructures such as power grids and banking systems.

“Increasing our use of renewable energy is key to Hawaii realizing a clean energy future. Referentia’s new data integration technologies help our utilities gather information from multiple sources within seconds to provide the required intelligence to integrate more renewable generation sources on our grid”

U.S. Senator Daniel K. Inouye, who was among the first drivers of initiatives focused on making Hawaii a center for cybersecurity, interoperability operations, and energy infrastructure solutions, provided today’s keynote speech before more than 200 government, public and private industry leaders.

“Referentia employees are among Hawaii’s brightest and are working diligently to create solutions to protect our computer infrastructures, both military and civilian, and provide real-time analysis of our nation’s toughest issues,” said Senator Inouye. “With Hawaii’s strategic location in the Pacific, I am proud that technology firms like Referentia are partnering with the military to make a difference in our nation’s global cybersecurity needs. This is an outstanding investment.”

Referentia is working closely with the U.S. Pacific Command, the Navy and other strategic departments and agencies in cybersecurity to create improved network defense technologies. The locally founded, locally headquartered company’s innovative and cutting-edge work in this area has garnered international attention from both government and large commercial organizations.

“It is imperative we have a unified vision of cyber operations and we are pleased this important and valuable work is performed from Hawaii to help our nation,” said Randy Cieslak, Chief Information Officer and acting J6 Director of the U.S. Pacific Command.

In addition to Referentia’s focus on U.S. Government operations, the Company is working with Hawaiian Electric Industries to demonstrate smart grid management and cybersecure solutions throughout Hawaii that are applicable worldwide.

“Increasing our use of renewable energy is key to Hawaii realizing a clean energy future. Referentia’s new data integration technologies help our utilities gather information from multiple sources within seconds to provide the required intelligence to integrate more renewable generation sources on our grid,” said Constance Lau, President and CEO of Hawaiian Electric Industries, Inc. “In addition, Referentia is applying relevant DoD-based cybersecurity expertise as our utilities migrate to a smarter grid that supports growing amounts of renewable energy. Referentia is a local company deserving of its success, and we are pleased to see the Company grow and become a national leader in cybersecurity innovations. We look forward to a long collaboration that will benefit all of Hawaii.”

“I am humbled and honored that Referentia is playing a key role for Hawaii to be a leader in the cybersecurity industry worldwide, and effectively help solve our national and global security issues while creating top notch jobs throughout the State with the help of our Government, public and private supporters,” said Nelson Kanemoto, CEO of Referentia. “I applaud the efforts of U.S. Senator Dan Inouye, our congressional delegation and Governor Abercrombie for having the vision early on that anything is possible in Hawaii. I am also very grateful for our military partners like the U.S. Pacific Command and the Navy who have enabled us to create relevant cyber solutions addressing real-world security threats. We will be focused on making the Cyber Collaboration Center a centerpiece of the Pacific.”

The Cyber Collaboration Center is located in Honolulu, Hawaii and will focus on government, private and public industry cybersecurity initiatives as well as championing the CyberPatriot National High School Cyber Defense Competition in Hawaii.
