Travelocity Debuts First-Ever Summer Travel Pricing Barometer
SOUTHLAKE, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Travelocity’s brand-new Summer Travel Pricing Barometer reveals that right now is likely the best time to purchase Memorial Day weekend airfare. Travelocity analyzed four years (2007 – 2010) of historical airfare booking data to find the sweet spot for getting the lowest possible price on airfare for summer’s first major travel weekend.
“Travelocity’s Summer Travel Pricing Barometer was designed to help consumers figure out the best time to book their vacations, based on historical data.”
In three of the last four years (2007, 2009 and 2010) Travelocity found that the lowest average price for airfare was available eight weeks (Week 1) before Memorial Day Weekend (Week 8). Historically, airfare booked eight weeks in advance has been cheaper even than airfare booked nine weeks or more in advance (Week 0). After Week 1, airfare has historically risen and then remained relatively consistent until two weeks prior to the holiday weekend when there has been an upward spike.
“We know travelers are still very price sensitive and that every dollar counts,” said Genevieve Shaw Brown, Travelocity’s senior editor. “Travelocity’s Summer Travel Pricing Barometer was designed to help consumers figure out the best time to book their vacations, based on historical data.”
