Hubstart Paris®: Greater Roissy and the City of Atlanta Sign a Cooperation Agreement to Promote Business

PARIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--On Monday, July 11th, 2011, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed (USA), Paris Region Economic Development Agency Chairman and Hubstart Paris® Alliance Representative Jean-Claude Detilleux, and Aéroports de Paris representative Elisabeth Le Masson; the signing took place in the presence of Bernard Anquez, Air France representative at Delta Airlines.

“This kind of initiatives is welcome to boost international business exchanges and foreign investments. France already has about 100 French affiliates in the State of Georgia, mostly in the Metro Atlanta area, creating about 15,000 jobs. I expect these numbers to increase significantly with this new MOU”

The agreement aims at fostering the establishment and growth of foreign companies in and around both major hubs, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and Paris Charles-de-Gaulle airport, with the resulting job creation this will bring about within businesses whose growth is significantly related to their proximity to the airport.

The agreement also further extends “France-Atlanta 2010” and follows on from the visit of Atlanta Mayor who was in Paris last January to attend the conference about Greater Roissy.

This is the second international agreement signed by Hubstart Paris®, for a 1st agreement was signed on April 11th, 2011 with the City of Memphis. Other such collaborative projects are currently being prepared.

The agreement is founded upon 3 main objectives:

  • To promote the respective areas to companies already established in Atlanta or Greater Roissy who wish to expand internationally to Europe or the United States.
  • To jointly prospect for companies in emerging countries which are seeking to expand internationally.
  • To initiate and ultimately create an international network of airport areas.

“This kind of initiatives is welcome to boost international business exchanges and foreign investments. France already has about 100 French affiliates in the State of Georgia, mostly in the Metro Atlanta area, creating about 15,000 jobs. I expect these numbers to increase significantly with this new MOU”, explains Pascal Le Deunff, Consul General of France in Atlanta and co-presenter of the France-Atlanta project.

Thanks to its hub position, Atlanta is the world’s leading airport in terms of passengers, with 89 million processed in 2010. Paris Charles-de-Gaulle ranks 7th worldwide, and is the leading European airport. It hosted close to 58 million passengers in 2010, as well as 2 million metric tons of freight and postal shipments.
