PICMG Completes Asset Transfer with CP-TA

Dépèche transmise le 25 octobre 2011 par Business Wire

WAKEFIELD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--PICMG, a leading standards organization for the communications, military and embedded computer industries, has announced completion of the transfer of assets from CP-TA, the Communication Platforms Trade Association. In conjunction with the transaction, PICMG will quickly form an xTCA promotional subcommittee to carry on the educational and marketing outreach formerly conducted by members of the CP-TA marketing work group.

CP-TA was founded in 2006 as an organization of companies dedicated to accelerating the adoption of open specification-based xTCA communications platforms through interoperability compliance guidelines and member advocacy. Through the years, CP-TA has produced test plans, compliance documents, and a variety of test tools to help define and solve interoperability issues involved with deploying products from several different vendors. PICMG will now oversee those documents and will provide them free to the public.

“With many of CP-TA’s own goals realized in the publication of the Interoperability Compliance Document (ICD) and the Test Procedure Manual (TPM) – which cover the majority of PICMG’s xTCA specifications – and with incremental revisions on PICMG’s side to those xTCA specifications, it became clear that we had addressed any concern regarding interoperability of xTCA products. PICMG and CP-TA have accomplished this task and can now move forward with promoting xTCA platforms to audiences outside the telecommunications market, including aerospace and defense, medical and embedded computing,” said Joe Pavlat, PICMG’s President.

“With its robust policies and procedures, PICMG was the natural place to land CP-TA’s final deliverables and continue our important work. We know that the ICD and TPM documents are in very capable hands. We thank all who contributed time and talent to CP-TA over the years and are proud to have greatly reduced the effort needed by customers to resolve interoperability issues,” said Sven Freudenfeld, CP-TA President.

PICMG’s xTCA family of specifications includes Advanced Mezzanine Card™, MicroTCA® and AdvancedTCA® architectures. Development on these specifications began in 2001 and nearly all of the major telecommunication equipment providers now use all or some portion of PICMG’s xTCA defined products in worldwide deployments. PICMG’s xTCA family is also used in a wide variety of military, industrial and research markets.
