GlobalSpec Aerospace Technology Online Trade Show and Event Draws More Than 1,400 Attendees

EAST GREENBUSH, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The “Aerospace Technology” online trade show and event on November 16, 2011 hosted by GlobalSpec and supported by SAE International drew more than 1,400 participants, with 80 percent of attendees reporting they are decision makers within their organizations. The free virtual conference is now available on demand to give engineers easy access to educational presentations and industry-leading supplier resources from the live-day event.

“With consistent attendance rates over a thousand and a steady rate of about 80 percent of attendees confirming they are decision makers, GlobalSpec Online Trade Shows and Events clearly are delivering valuable content and quality educational sessions to the engineering and manufacturing communities”

GlobalSpec’s “Aerospace Technology” event provided educational forums, manufacturer and supplier content, and expertise on the latest technology trends impacting the engineering marketplace. Participants explored the latest innovations, trends and technologies driving today's military, commercial and scientific aircraft – from new avionics and flight control strategies to material systems incorporating lightweight composites and high-strength alloys.

“With consistent attendance rates over a thousand and a steady rate of about 80 percent of attendees confirming they are decision makers, GlobalSpec Online Trade Shows and Events clearly are delivering valuable content and quality educational sessions to the engineering and manufacturing communities,” said Donna Lewis, vice president of e-publishing and e-events for GlobalSpec. “The cutting-edge educational content and top exhibitors featured at Aerospace Technology made it yet another ‘must-attend’ event for industry leaders.”

Speakers and topics at the event included:

  • SAE Standards on Counterfeit Avoidance and Mitigation – Participants learned how to keep counterfeits out of inventory to protect relationships with customers. SAE has recently published new standards that show organizations of all types how to avoid getting counterfeit parts, materials and other items into their inventory. These standards are widely used by government and industry in the aerospace/defense sector.
Presented by Bruce Mahone, Director, Washington Operations, Aerospace, SAE International
  • How to Improve ROI for Engineering Simulation Tools - The debate over return on investment from engineering simulation software is shifting from "whether the tools add value" to "how can implementation maximize ROI?" This presentation reviewed the discussion, outlined key factors to consider and closed with an example for an unmanned aircraft system.
Presented by Robert Hardwood, Ph.D., Aerospace and Defense Industry Director, ANSYS, Inc.
  • Automating Fuselage Assembly & Inspection in a Production Environment - A new automated inspection solution employed by Airbus has reduced inspection time more than 80 percent. Developed to inspect the forward section of an aircraft fuselage, the solution can adapt to changes in the inspection conditions, the inspection process, or other aircraft models.
Presented by Mathieu Dube-Dallaire, Engineering Director, BuildIT Software & Solutions, Ltd.
  • Vibration Advances for Helicopter Simulators - Reproducing vibrations typical of those experienced by the crew of a helicopter is critical for training purposes. This presentation described the newest advance in helicopter motion simulation – a three-axis vibration platform that simulates rotary wing systems.
Presented by Scott Metcalfe, Business Unit Manager, WITTENSTEIN Aerospace & Simulation, Inc.
  • Cut Fuel Costs with Nanotech Coatings - By applying a nanostructured polymer coating to the fuselage of its aircraft, UK carrier easyJet hopes to save as much as 2 percent in fuel costs. The coating fills micro-cracks and prevents the buildup of debris, reducing friction by 39 percent.
Presented by Paul Booker, Managing Director, tripleO performance solutions
  • Understanding RF and Microwave Filters - RF and microwave filters are essential components in every type of communications, radar, avionics, Satcom or defense system. This presentation gave designers all the knowledge they need to understand filters, determine the type best suited to the application, and specify them with confidence.
Presented by Sam Benzacar, Founder, Anatech Electronics, Inc.
