Winter Air Service Begins to Mammoth Including New United Flights from San Diego and Orange County

MAMMOTH LAKES, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Winter air service to Mammoth Mountain begins on December 15, 2011, just in time for California residents to experience a snowy holiday. Offered by both United Airlines and Alaska Airlines, the flights will begin from Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, Orange County and San Jose to Mammoth Yosemite Airport.

“Air service from Los Angeles, San Jose and San Francisco has been a tremendous success and we’re pleased to be announcing service from two new major markets”

New United service includes non-stop flights daily throughout the winter from San Diego, and Thursday – Sunday service from Orange County. Daily non-stop air service to and from San Francisco that began last year will see the addition of a second flight Thursday – Sunday.

Alaska Airlines will offer one daily non-stop flight from LAX as well as another flight six days per week excluding Saturday. The airline also will provide a non-stop Thursday – Sunday service from San Jose.

“Air service from Los Angeles, San Jose and San Francisco has been a tremendous success and we’re pleased to be announcing service from two new major markets,” said Howard Pickett, Chief Marketing Officer, Mammoth Mountain. “After our record-breaking 2010-11 snow season and the predicted return of La Niña, Mammoth will be easier to get to from more places than ever before.”

Travelers who take advantage of the first flights of the season will be able to celebrate the return of the Night of Lights at Canyon Lodge on Saturday, December 17, 2011. A nearly 20-year-old tradition, the Night of Lights celebrates the magic of the holiday season with a winter lights show against the majestic backdrop of Mammoth's ski slopes. Guests of all ages are invited to ride the complimentary Village Gondola to Canyon Lodge where they can enjoy a fun-filled night complete with a firework show, torchlight parade, live music and more. Prior to the event, visitors can get in some holiday shopping in The Village, with an atmosphere more relaxed than the standard city mall.

Mammoth Lakes Yosemite airport is just 15 minutes from Mammoth Mountain Resort as well as a large number of hotels to suit all tastes and budgets and a large variety of restaurants.
