Kettering University Offering $700 Course for Free to Those Seeking to Start or Grow a Tech Company in Michigan
FLINT, Mich.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Kettering University will offer a $700 course for free for individuals interested in starting or growing a tech company in Michigan. The course begins April 4 and runs five consecutive Wednesday evenings until early May.
“By the end of the program, they’ll have an effective business plan and be able to pitch others on their idea”
Neil Sheridan, director of Kettering’s TechWorks program, said the course is intended to help create jobs and economic growth for Michigan. “We’re helping people with a business or technology background who want to launch a new venture with others. Taking our course is a great way to accelerate a successful launch and reduce the risk of failure.”
Starting a new tech business is challenging but Kettering has the experts and support network to help, said Alex Masters, who co-teaches the course with Sheridan. “Our participants learn how to check whether their idea is likely to succeed in the marketplace,” Masters said. “By the end of the program, they’ll have an effective business plan and be able to pitch others on their idea,” he explained.
Masters said the program’s $700 fee is being waived during the spring session. “The workshop normally costs $700 but is being sponsored at no cost to participants by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, ” Masters said. “This includes a free workbook, start-up tools and an opportunity to network with the guest speakers, facilitators and other participants.”
Expert guest speakers include patent attorneys, venture capitalists, technology entrepreneurs and other professionals who will provide real-life examples of the many challenges and successes that an entrepreneur may experience.
TechVenture consists of five sessions with each running from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. on April 4, 11, 18, 25 and May 2. To register or ask questions, send your contact information to [email protected]. The course will also be repeated in late summer and again in the fall.
