PPG, Physical Security Partner to Market MIL-TOUGH BR Coatings for ATFP Use
PITTSBURGH--(BUSINESS WIRE)--PPG Industries’ (NYSE:PPG) protective and marine coatings business (PPG-PMC) has partnered with Physical Security, LLC, to apply MIL-TOUGH(R) BR polyurea coating to help customers meet requirements of the U.S. Department of Defense Unified Facilities Criteria and the Interagency Security Committee Physical Security Criteria for Anti-Terrorism Force Protection (ATFP).
“Their strong reputation is based on experience with hardening the Pentagon’s exterior walls and providing glazing systems for U.S. embassies in Moscow, Berlin and Kabul, and it makes them an ideal partner for PPG.”
“PPG's government solutions team has been working to develop this market, and we are very happy to bring in a partner as experienced in the ATFP market as Physical Security,” said Shirley Stern, PPG manager of government sales. “Their strong reputation is based on experience with hardening the Pentagon’s exterior walls and providing glazing systems for U.S. embassies in Moscow, Berlin and Kabul, and it makes them an ideal partner for PPG.”
Stern said several PPG groups are working together with Physical Security to bring PPG’s polyurea technology to the ATFP market. “The automotive OEM coatings business, science and technology group and government solutions team are all working with PPG-PMC and Physical Security to offer this solution, which brings significant performance and cost improvements for the U.S. government,” she said.
The Mil-Tough BR coating system is a spray-on polyurea formulation that offers blast mitigation in buildings and provides a fast, cost-effective alternative to traditional structural steel or concrete systems, Stern said. Because it is sprayed on-site, she added, Mil-Tough BR coating can reduce the construction time associated with wall hardening, and it is particularly well suited to retrofitting existing structures.
Ken Hays, Physical Security vice president preconstruction, said, “The Mil-Tough BR coating system represents a technical leap forward in blast-resistant coatings, achieving previously unheard-of levels of blast resistance while tackling environmental and application constraints that have challenged the industry. This excellent time- and cost-saving coating solution offers a welcome alternative to traditional wall-hardening approaches.”
