LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Volt Technical Resources, a specialty staffing business of Volt Information Sciences, Inc. today announced that Dr. James McCaffrey, Associate Vice President, will present a research talk at the DevConnections conference March 26-29 in Las Vegas. McCaffrey will present “Simulated Bee Colony Algorithms.”

“This is one of many approaches inspired by my belief that natural processes can offer powerful tools for building solutions to difficult or impossible combinatorial problems.”

McCaffrey’s talk presents leading edge research on advanced computer algorithms that are modeled on the foraging and communication behavior of the common honey bee, Apis mellifera. Dr. McCaffrey’s work has recently set several world record results on benchmark optimization problems.

“Developing an optimization program using a simulated bee colony algorithm is an artificial intelligence technique that has potential application in a wide range of areas including computer server and infrastructure optimization as well as online advertising optimization,” said McCaffrey. “This is one of many approaches inspired by my belief that natural processes can offer powerful tools for building solutions to difficult or impossible combinatorial problems.”

The DevConnections conference is one of the premiere launch events for new Microsoft technologies and product releases, including SQL Server 2012, SharePoint, and Visual Studio. DevConnections serves as an opportunity for leading researchers, practitioners, developers, as well as users, to learning the strategies for building successful applications and to exchange techniques, tools and experiences.

McCaffrey has more than 30 years of experience in research and software engineering expertise. He manages technical training for software engineers working at the Microsoft Redmond, WA campus.
