Airbus: 20 aircrafts for Cebu Pacific

Cebu Pacific, the Philippines' low cost leader, has signed a contract for ten more A320 aircraft, with options on five aircraft and purchase rights on a further five aircraft. The airline placed an initial order for 12 A320 Family aircraft in September 2004, with the last one of these aircraft delivered earlier this month. Since the delivery of the first A320 in May 2005, Cebu Pacific has totally replaced its fleet of DC-9 and Boeing 757 aircraft. The new A320 aircraft will be used to further expand Cebu Pacific's network that currently extends to 26 domestic and 10 international destinations.

More than 5,000 A320 Family aircraft have been ordered by customers worldwide, over 1,200 of which are from customers in Asia-Pacific. The A320 Family has proved to be extremely popular with both full-service and low-cost airlines across the region, with more than 600 aircraft currently in service with 39 operators in the region.

"Our partnership with Airbus has been a key component in our domestic expansion and in intensifying our foray into the international arena", said Cebu Pacific President and CEO Lance Y. Gokongwei.

With around 1600 sales in the last two years alone, the A320 Family is also the fastest-selling jet airliner of all time. The Airbus A320 Family has been ordered by, or is in service with, more than 200 customers and operators worldwide. More than 3,000 A320 family aircraft have already been delivered and have completed 30 million flight cycles and 50 million flight hours.

Boeing: KC-767 Completes First Fuel Offload to Receiver

A Boeing KC-767 Tanker successfully extended its fifth generation, fly-by-wire air refueling boom and transferred fuel for the first time to another aircraft, on March 5th. During a four-hour flight over Southern California, the KC-767 connected the boom to a B-52 73 times and successfully offloaded approximately 10,000 lbs. of fuel to the receiver. This is a critical step towards the KC-767 Tanker delivery to Japan and Italy.

Then, on March 6th during another test, a F-15E from the US Air Force made multiple contacts and tested the boom's connection with the KC-767.

There have already been approximately 250 flights and 7250 hours logged on the KC-767 since it first flew. The first KC-767 for Japan is scheduled to be delivered soon, and the first KC-767 for Italy will be delivered later this year.

Boeing: 5 787-9 for Continental Airlines

Continental Airlines announced an order for five 787-9. This order, combined with the Houston-based airline's earlier announced orders, brings Continental's total firm 787 order to 25 aircraft. The airline also has contracted to convert 12 previously ordered 787-8 jetliners to the larger 787-9s.

Continental was the first airline in the Americas to order the 787, placing its initial order for 10 airplanes in 2004.

The 787-9 (250-290 passengers) is a slightly larger version of the 787-8 (210 to 250 passengers) with increased seating and range capability (approximately 8,500 nm versus 8,200 nm).

Airbus: Aeroflot finally to take A350XWB

The Russian flag carrier Aeroflot signed today the Memorandum of Understanding for 22 Airbus A350XWB aircraft. Aeroflot's decision brings the total number of orders and commitments for the Airbus A350XWB to 248. Aeroflot will also further increase its Airbus fleet with ten new A330-200s, which will be acquired on operating lease. This order puts to an end rumours that have been lasting for a year. Boeing had even blocked 22 slots on its 787 assembly line for Aeroflot, hoping to sign an order. However, the opposition from the Russian government refused the initiative that had been led along with a Russian investment group.

Aeroflot was the first Airbus customer and operator in Russia, with A310s entering service back in 1992. It was also the first airline in the CIS to operate the A319 and A321. Aeroflot currently operates 26 A320 Family single-aisle aircraft.

Airbus Military: First Centre Wing Box Delivered For A400M

The first centre wing box, the 'structural heart' of the A400M military transport aircraft, has been delivered from the Airbus Nantes site in France to Seville in Spain, where it arrived yesterday, Wednesday 28th March. Deliveries of major structural sections for the first A400M military transport aircraft to the final assembly line in Seville, Spain, started at the end of 2006.

An advanced composite structure, the centre wing box connects to the outer wing sections as well as being the component that connects the wings to the fuselage. In addition, the centre wing box is one of the fuel tanks of the A400M aircraft.

This particular part of the aircraft structure is capable of absorbing forces of over 200 tonnes which can be encountered during different phases of flight. In addition, significant weight savings have been achieved through 50 per cent of the centre wing box being produced from carbon fibre composite components. Four centre wing box structures are currently in production in the dedicated facility at the Airbus plant in Nantes, France.

Charles Paterson, Head of the A400M Wing Team said: “This is a huge milestone for the programme. The Centre Wing box team has done a first class job producing this component complete and on time”.

Firm orders for A400M now stand at 192 aircraft (180 aircraft in the original order for seven European NATO nations through OCCAR i.e. 60 for Germany; 50 for France; 27 for Spain; 25 for the UK; ten for Turkey; seven for Belgium and one for Luxembourg; plus 12 aircraft ordered by two further customers, i.e. eight aircraft for South Africa and four for Malaysia).

Eurocopter: Inauguration of a New Plant in Spain

The President of the Autonomous Community of Castilla-La Mancha, José María Barreda, today inaugurated the new Eurocopter España plant in Albacete in the presence of the Eurocopter CEO, Lutz Bertling; the Spanish Secretary of State for Defence; and the Mayor of Albacete. The authorities from the Ministry of interior, Industry, and Defence also attended this significant event, alongside representatives from the region’s main political and administrative institutions. The full program for the morning ceremony included a demonstration by the ASPA, aerobatic team of the Spanish Air Force, with Eurocopter Colibri helicopters.

Today’s inauguration shows the long term commitment of the Eurocopter Group to Spain. The plant was designed to incorporate the highest levels of technology in Europe, with the aim of developing a full cycle and permanent helicopter industry in Spain. The 150,000 square meter site will contain 33,000 square meters of covered production facilities, which will house the EC135, NH90, and Tiger hangers, as well as the facilities dedicated to aerostructures. By the end of 2010, the plant will have a workforce of 700 people.

As the third pillar of the Eurocopter Group, Spain is developing engineering, manufacturing, upgrading, delivery, and logistic activities, with complete responsibility for customer support, marketing, and program management. Eurocopter is the main helicopter contractor in Spain, and the country is fully involved in the most important programs. The Ministry of Interior has decided to acquire 48 EC135, mainly for EMS and law enforcement missions and the Ministry of Defence has ordered four of these aircraft for the Emergency Military Unit (UME). The Spanish Army has ordered a total of 24 Tiger combat helicopters. It is expected that the country will participate in the development of the new tactical transport helicopter, the NH90, the most modern multi-role helicopter in the world: the Spanish Ministry of Defence has already ordered 45 of these aircraft.

The new Eurocopter España plant in Albacete will be responsible for the production of the fuselage rear sections of the EC 135, made from composite materials, and Tiger;as well the fuselage forward sections of the NH90. The plant will house the final assembly lines for the EC135 intended for the Spanish market; the Spanish HAD version of the Tiger from 2008 and the NH90 in TTH version for the Ministry of Defence.
