Airbus: Cabin Furnishing Completed for first Singapore Airlines A380

Cabin furnishing of the first production A380 was completed in early April and is being tested prior to final delivery to Singapore Airlines.

The first production A380 - MSN003 - reached the end of the cabin systems test phase on 4 April. Installation of the aircraft’s cabin at the A380 final assembly line in Hamburg was finished on 21 March and since then Airbus’ engineers and systems specialists have been performing a range of tests on the newly installed systems to check that they are working as expected.

The A380 programme team has been working with Singapore’s three on-site representatives throughout cabin furnishing to ensure that they are closely involved in decisions at every stage.

This phase of production has run very smoothly and those working on the FAL are excited by the results.
We are entering a new world of cabin furnishing,” said Peter Hahn head of the A380 FAL in Hamburg. “This cabin interior looks fantastic and brings a brand new dimension to the onboard experience that Singapore Airlines can offer its passengers.

Once the pre-acceptance phase has been completed, the aircraft will be painted in the Singapore livery and undergo more systems analysis on the ground before its cabin first flight in the summer to test cabin system performance in the air.

The deal marks Airbus' breakthrough in the Israeli market. The aircraft will be configured in all economy class with 174 seats. Boeing: Virgin Atlantic orders 15 787

The British company, Virgin Atlantic, announced an order for 15 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, marking it the largest 787 order to date for Europe. The order, worth approximately $2.8 billion at list prices, was previously listed on Boeing's web site to an unidentified customer.

The order also includes options for an additional eight 787-9s and purchase rights for an additional 20 787s. This order had been highly expected since billionaire Sir Richard Branson said he wanted the British company to become a green airline. Therefore, an environmental partnership - including a joint biofuel demonstration - between Boeing and Virgin has been signed. It is aimed at developing sustainable fuel sources suitable for commercial jet engines and the aviation industry. The demonstration, scheduled for 2008 using a Virgin Atlantic Boeing 747-400, is being worked jointly with GE Aviation and Virgin Fuels.

Virgin Atlantic is jointly owned by Virgin group with 51% of the shares and Asian company Singapore Airlines (49%). Its fleet comprises five Airbus A340-300, nineteen Airbus A340-600 and thirteen Boeing 747-400.

Bombardier Aerospace announced today that Horizon Air of Seattle, Washington, has placed a firm order for 15 Bombardier Q400 airliners and has taken options on an additional 20 Q400 aircraft. With this order, Horizon Air continues to be the largest North American operator of the Q400 aircraft. The airline serves 49 cities in the Western U.S. and Western Canada.

Based on the list price for the Q400 aircraft, the value of the contract for the 15 firm-ordered aircraft is approximately $393 million US.

Horizon Air has been a valued customer of Bombardier for over 20 years and they were the North American launch customer for the Q400 airliner,” said Steven Ridolfi, President, Bombardier Regional Aircraft. “We are grateful for Horizon Air’s continuing confidence in Bombardier, demonstrated by the airline’s utilization of both our CRJ Series regional jets and Q-Series turboprop aircraft to meet its fleet requirements.”

Our first-hand experience with the Q400 over more than six years has given us the confidence to invest further in the model,” said Jeff Pinneo, President and Chief Executive Officer, Horizon Air. “We have a keen understanding of the aircraft’s many advantages – its superior economics, how well it’s accepted by customers, and its exceptional fit to our unique market requirements.

Including the order announced today, Horizon Air has over the years ordered a total of 115 Bombardier aircraft, comprised of 21 Dash 8/Q100, 28 Q200 and 46 Q400 turboprop airliners, and 20 Bombardier CRJ-700 regional jets. There are currently more than 60 aircraft in various stages of production. Seven airplanes are in completion in Little Rock.
