The next edition of Air Cargo Challenge will take place in the city of Covilhã, Portugal, on 27-31 August 2009. This edition is being organized by AEROUBI with the support of the Department of Aerospace Sciences of University of Beira Interior. Following the success of previous editions, the 2009 event will certainly have the participation of many teams of various nationalities and, at the same time, will receive special attention from national and international media. Since this competition is open to the community, it is expected that it will bring along the general public as it has been the case in other air sports events which have recently taken place in Portugal.

AEROUBI - Núcleo de Engenharia Aeronáutica of University of Beira Interior is a student’s association affiliated to EUROAVIA – the European Association of Aerospace Students, which has more than 1200 members from 17 European countries. As one of the many activities sponsored by EUROAVIA, the “Air Cargo Challenge” competition takes place every two years since 2003, involving various higher education institutions across Europe, with the main goal of developing and flying a radio-controlled aircraft capable of lifting the maximum payload weight possible subject to well defined design requirements. The winning team will be the one that gets the highest overall points in the design report and flying event. All information on the Air Cargo Challenge’09 competition can be found in the website wwwacc09.com, including competition regulations and previous events’ photos and videos. Registration for the competition closes on 12 December 2008.
