Eurocopter: 3 Helicopters for the Shanghai Public Security Bureau

Shanghai Public Security Bureau purchased two light twin-engine EC135 and one medium twinengine EC155. The EC135 combines superior performance, mission versatility, high flight safety with an unchallenged 98 percent availability. This powerful and extremly quiet helicopter is now established as the most successful lightweight twin-engine helicopter.

he EC155 is a member of the famous Dauphin family, widely used by law enforcement authorities, such as the US Coast Guards that are operating 96 helicopters of this type. The EC155 features the new generation of helicopter in terms of passenger comfort, piloting aid, safety and performance.

With long range capabilities, it is particularly adapted for troop transport operations and VIP transport. These helicopters will be used by the Shanghai Public Security Bureau for police missions, including air patrol and air reconnaissance. They will also be deployed for other public missions such as emergency medical service, fire-fighting, evacuations as well as directing road traffic.

Shanghai is purchasing helicopters in line with the national police aviation policy. A police helicopter squad will be set up in the municipal public security bureau, which is positioned to provide police services and serve other administrative functions of the government.

This new success comforts Eurocopter’s leading position on the Chinese civil and parapublic market with more than 45% of this market. Shanghai Public Security Bureau will be the new police force in China to be equipped with Eurocopter helicopters, after the Guangdong police, which operates today one EC135 and one EC120.

Boeing: 4 737 for Copa Airlines

the Panamanian airline, Copa Airlines, placed an order for four Boeing 737-800 airplanes in a deal valued at approximately $282 million at list prices.
The order brings to 34 the number of Next-Generation 737s Copa has ordered. The four 737s announced today were previously posted to an "unidentified customer" on the Boeing Commercial Airplanes orders and deliveries website. Copa now operates 24 Next-Generation 737s, with 10 - including those announced today -- remaining to be delivered.

Copa was the first carrier in the Americas to incorporate blended-winglets on the 737-700. All of its Next-Generation 737s use the distinctive curved wing ends, which improve fuel efficiency and lift while reducing engine wear and carbon dioxide emissions.

Embraer: Embraer 190 receives 75min ETOPS

The EMBRAER 190 jet, with seating for up to 114 passengers, received its first ETOPS (Extended range Twin-engine Operations) approval from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The aircraft had obtained the same rating from ANAC, the Brazilian aviation authority, just two weeks earlier. This approval enables the EMBRAER 190 to fly routes that have a diversion airport up to 75 minutes from the flight path.

The 75-minute ETOPS rating allows the EMBRAER 190 to fly long-distance routes over water or desert. It broadens the operations which can be performed, especially in regions like Southeast Asia or Australia. Embraer is also working on the 120-minute ETOPS approval, which will be available for customers in the beginning of 2008.

Airbus: Emirates orders four additional A380

Dubai based Emirates Airlines has reaffirmed its order for 43 Airbus A380 aircraft and additionally signed a contract for a further four. Emirates will begin receiving its first A380 aircraft in the third quarter of 2008.
Emirates was a launch customers for the A380 and already had the largest number of aircraft on order which has now been increased to 47.

This new order is probably part of negotiations between Airbus and Emirates to find an agreement about the A380 delays. The Dubai company has been the third airline to order additional aircrafts since the delays were announced ten months ago. Qantas ordered eight additional planes in October 2006 (see the news) while Singapore Airlines took nine additional aircrafts last July at the Farnborough Airshow (see the news).

Airbus is to deliver the first A380 to Singapore Airlines in September 2007. Emirates should get its first frame - MSN011 - during first quarter 2008.

Airbus: 6 A330F for Flyington

Flyington Freighters has selected the Airbus A330-200F freighter for its entire fleet and signed a firm order for six aircraft, re-affirming its earlier commitment. The contract was signed on May 9th in Mumbai.

Flyington Freighters Ltd was the first cargo airline to buy the A330-200F, and will be world’s first operator of the new aircraft. The A330-200F will join the Flyington fleet in the second half of 2009.

"We opted for an all Airbus fleet of freighters because the A330-200F offers unbeatably low operating costs and significant operational benefits. The aircraft is new, modern and designed for today's business needs. The aircraft will gives Flyington Freighters a solid springboard for success in the rapidly expanding Indian freighter market", said Venkattram Reddy, Chairman, Flyington Freighters Ltd.

The A330-200F is the only mid-size, long-haul all-cargo aircraft capable of carrying 64 tonnes over 4000 nautical miles / 7400 kilometers in "range mode" configuration, or 69 metric tons up to 3200 nm / 5930 km in “payload mode.” The A330-200F offers 30 percent more volume than any freighter in its class.

Bombardier: 15 additional Q400 for Flybe

Bombardier Aerospace announced that Exeter, England-based Flybe has signed a contract to acquire 15 additional Bombardier Q400 high-speed turboprop airliners. In addition, Flybe has taken options on 15 Q400 aircraft.

The value of the firm orders, based on the list price of the Q400 aircraft is approximately $394 million U.S.

Flybe is already the operator of the world’s largest Q400 fleet; deliveries of the 15 firm-ordered aircraft, along with those previously ordered, will increase the fleet to 60 aircraft.

“The introduction of the Bombardier Q400 aircraft has played a key role in the turn-around of the business due to its customer appeal and economics,” said Jim French, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Flybe. “For the future though, most importantly its environmental credentials are exceptional.”

Flybe became Europe’s largest regional airline on March 5, 2007 when it acquired BA Connect from British Airways. With that acquisition, Flybe will operate 152 routes from 22 airports in the U.K. and 34 in Europe.

Airbus: 10 additional A330 for AerCap

AerCap, headquartered in the Netherlands, has signed a firm contract with Airbus for the purchase of an additional ten Airbus A330-200 passenger aircraft, following their order for twenty A330-200s in December 2006. With its proven benefits in terms of economics and a wide customer base, the A330-200 will assist AerCap in the growth of their portfolio.

"Since AerCap ordered twenty new Airbus aircraft in December last year, we have already lined up customers for thirteen out of the twenty aircraft, in only four months. The order for an additional ten aircraft will help us to further expand our portfolio in the attractive market for modern, smaller widebody aircraft, and to meet the demands of our global customer base," commented Klaus Heinemann, Chief Executive Officer of AerCap.

AerCap first ordered 32 Airbus A320 Family aircraft in 1999. This was followed by a large follow-up order for 70 A320 Family aircraft in December 2005, through an AerCap joint venture with LoadAir. Then Aercap ordered 20 A330-200s in December 2006.

Finnair took delivery from Airbus today of its first long-range A340-300E (E for Enhanced), the first of an initial order of three placed in December 2005. Since, Finnair has increased its order for Airbus long haul aircraft, adding seven A330/A340s and 11 A350XWBs. The A350XWB is Airbus’ latest medium capacity long range airliner and will join Finnair’s fleet in 2014.
