The following statement was released by NetJets Chairman and CEO
Richard T. Santulli in conjunction with the company's decision to
expand in Columbus, Ohio:
Today is a landmark day in the history of NetJets. I am pleased to
announce that after an extensive review of where to locate our future
expansion, we have decided that Ohio is where we belong. The State of
Ohio, the City of Columbus, and the Columbus Regional Airport
Authority - whose teams were led by Governor Ted Strickland, Lt.
Governor Lee Fisher, Mayor Michael Coleman and CRAA CEO Elaine Roberts
- made a compelling argument that the future of NetJets was right here
in Columbus. We agree.
We are staying and expanding in Columbus largely because of our
NetJets employees. NetJets is a customer service business and our
number one job is to provide our Owners with unparalleled safety and
service. Ohioans - whether natives or transplants - bring a unique
work ethic to their jobs. At NetJets, that means all of our employees
go the extra mile for our Owners. That commitment and loyalty are the
hallmarks of our NetJets culture and could not be replicated
elsewhere.
Specifically, we are announcing that NetJets and Flight Safety
International will retain our 2,022 employees in Columbus and will
commit to creating an additional 810 new jobs. Together NetJets and
Flight Safety International expect to invest more than $200 million to
build a world-class campus, including the largest Flight Safety
International training center in the world. In short, our goal is to
become the employer of choice in the Midwest and to have a legacy
campus that befits our status as the world's ultimate luxury brand.
We owe a great deal of thanks to the local leaders in government,
business, the community, and higher education. This last piece was
critical to our decision to expand in Columbus. NetJets' future rests
with the talent we are able to cultivate and the research we are able
to complete. Ohio Board of Regents Chancellor Eric Fingerhut and OSU
President Gordon Gee personally led a team that articulated an
inspiring vision for how higher education can spur economic
development in Ohio. We are excited to help make their vision a
reality and we look forward to providing details in the coming months
of a significant partnership with the Ohio system of higher education.
Our decision today positions NetJets to continue its leadership in
private aviation into the future.
