Horizon Air announced today that it will offer twice-daily nonstop
service from Los Angeles to Flagstaff/Grand Canyon, Ariz., starting
June 23.
Introductory one-way fares from Flagstaff will start as low as $89
to Los Angeles, $139 to Seattle, and $129 to Portland, Ore., with
similarly low fares to other cities throughout the West, including
Mexico.
As an extra bonus, passengers with Horizon Air/Alaska Airlines
Mileage Plan frequent flier program accounts can earn Double Miles on
the route through Aug. 31, 2008.
"Travelers from Flagstaff can say goodbye to missed connections or
the long, unpredictable drive to another airport," said Dan Russo,
Horizon's director of marketing and communications. "Instead, they'll
enjoy a relaxing, affordable Horizon Air flight from their hometown
airport to Los Angeles. Visitors to the area from around the world
will also gain a new, easier way to experience the Grand Canyon,
Sedona and the other beautiful natural attractions nearby."
With Horizon's new flights, Flagstaff-area residents will gain an
easier way to travel to Southern California and new, easier access to
flights to Asia, Europe and other overseas destinations through Los
Angeles International Airport. Similarly, the service is expected to
boost tourism to Northern Arizona by facilitating inbound travel from
a wide variety of national and international airlines that fly into
LAX.
"This new service significantly enhances the choices for air
travel from our market," said Flagstaff Mayor Joe Donaldson. "We have
listened to the community, our staff has worked diligently with
Horizon Air, and we will soon enjoy the benefits of Horizon's
reputation and reliable air service to Los Angeles International
Airport."

Flagstaff is conveniently located 80 miles from the Grand Canyon
and is home to several natural, cultural and scientific attractions
including the world renowned Lowell Observatory, the prestigious
Museum of Northern Arizona and the Arboretum at Flagstaff, which
houses one of the nation's largest collections of high-desert
wildflowers. Flagstaff is also the ideal spot to take-off for a
northern Arizona adventure. Visitors will enjoy exploring many other
impressive natural wonders in the area, including the Red Rocks of
Sedona, the San Francisco Peaks, Monument Valley, Lake Powell, Wupatki
and Sunset Crater National Monuments and numerous Native American
communities. The city is also home to Northern Arizona University, as
well as a diverse group of Fortune 500 companies.
Horizon's flights to Flagstaff will be operated with the airline's
Bombardier Q400s. This 74/76-seat, high-speed, twin-engine turboprop
is one of the most technologically advanced regional aircraft in the
world. It's as quiet and comfortable as a jet - thanks to its special
technology that suppresses noise and vibration, its generously sized
overhead storage bins, its unobstructed under-seat space, and its
ample headroom (6 feet, 5 inches). The Q400 is also among the most
environmentally friendly aircraft today, producing up to 60 percent
less CO2 than a comparably sized jet.
Inflight service, provided by two flight attendants, includes - at
no extra charge - premium Jones Pure Cane Soda, Starbucks coffee, and
Northwest wines and microbrews.
