Jerry Airola, president of Silver State Helicopters, recently
announced that the company has opened a new location for their air
traffic control training program at the Grayson County Airport located
in Denison, Texas, 60 miles north of Dallas/Fort Worth.
Designed by the Silver State Aeronautical Career Center, a
division of Silver State Helicopters, the air traffic control training
program provides comprehensive classroom training, reinforced in a
simulated environment along with on-the-job training. In addition,
students will have the chance to train in a state-of-the-art control
tower simulator. Silver State Helicopters is the only academy that
trains students to graduate with a Control Tower Operator (CTO)
Certificate as well as a Private Pilot License. Graduates are then
certified by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for employment
as air traffic controllers.
Silver State Helicopters opened their first training location in
New Braunfels, Tex. in 2006 in response to the FAA's announcement to
hire 12,500 controllers over a ten-year period. The plan was developed
to cover the projected loss of 11,000 controllers and replace expected
retirees between 2007 and 2014.
Silver State Helicopters was founded in 1999, and is a
full-service commercial helicopter operator with flight and air
traffic control academies. Operations include search and rescue, air
ambulance, aerial tours, photography, law enforcement air support,
agriculture and fire fighting, along with many other services. Silver
State Helicopters has operations at more than thirty locations
in fourteen states as well as overseas. Silver State Helicopters is
the largest flight academy and the fastest growing rotorcraft company
in the world today. For further information please visit their website
