WHO: Allied Pilots Association, collective bargaining agent for
the 12,000 pilots of American Airlines, the nation's largest passenger
carrier.
WHAT: National membership unity rally and pilot march to American
Airlines (NYSE:AMR) corporate headquarters, with hundreds of pilots
already signed up to participate.
WHERE: APA headquarters, 14600 Trinity Blvd., Ste. 500, Fort
Worth, TX 76155-2512
WHEN: Wednesday, April 18 from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
WHY: Senior executives at American Airlines are scheduled to
receive large bonuses on April 19, in some cases representing a 700
percent increase in their compensation since the airline's
out-of-court restructuring four years ago. By contrast, the pilots
have given up $2.6 billion in compensation since 2003. During that
same period, almost 3,000 pilots were on furlough, while many of those
remaining had their pay cut in half. APA objects to the extremely
disparate rate of financial recovery between senior executives and
front-line employees and believes that shared sacrifice should result
in shared reward.
Founded in 1963, APA is headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas. There
are currently 2,799 American Airlines pilots on furlough. The
furloughs began shortly after the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks. Also,
several hundred American Airlines pilots are on full-time military
leave of absence serving in the armed forces. The union's Web site
address is www.alliedpilots.org. American Airlines is the nation's
largest passenger carrier.
