Starting April 22, Horizon Air is cutting fares between Bellingham
and Seattle by up to half and increasing available seating by 50
percent, having completed a transition to larger aircraft on the
route.
Fares between Bellingham and Seattle, currently $77-$125 one way,
are dropping as low as $49 for limited tickets purchased 14 days or
more ahead of travel and $69 for unrestricted tickets purchased at the
last minute.
The lower fares--not limited-time specials, but now part of
Horizon's regular fare structure--are expected to be popular with
business people needing to make a quick trip between the two cities.
Those looking for a fast and easy way to make Seattle flight
connections will find the lower fares an economical alternative to I-5
traffic hassles and high parking costs in Seattle.
On March 18, Horizon replaced four flights between Bellingham and
Seattle operated with Bombardier 37-seat Q200s with three flights
flown with 74- to 76-seat Bombardier Q400s. On April 22, the remaining
four Q200 flights will be replaced with three Q400 flights. This
brings Horizon to a total of six daily Q400 flights.
"The Q400 carries twice as many passengers as the Q200 more
economically, allowing Horizon to offer better value to the growing
number of air travelers between the Bellingham/Lower Mainland area and
Seattle," said Patrick Zachwieja, Horizon's vice president of
marketing and planning.
Earlier this year, Horizon Air and the Port of Bellingham
celebrated the airline's 20 years of service to Bellingham
International Airport. Named 2007 Regional Airline of the Year by Air
Transport World magazine, Horizon today serves 49 cities throughout
California, Colorado, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, and
British Columbia and Alberta. Together, Horizon Air and Alaska
Airlines serve 90 cities and are subsidiaries of Alaska Air Group,
Inc. (NYSE:ALK).
For the $49 fare shown, seats are limited and may not be available
on all flights or all days and tickets are nonrefundable but can be
changed for a $50 change fee and any applicable changes in fare. For
all fares shown, a ticket purchased at a Horizon Air or Alaska
Airlines airport location or through the airlines' reservation call
centers will cost $10 more per person than tickets purchased online at
www.horizonair.com or www.alaskaair.com. Passengers are responsible
for the following taxes and fees charged in both directions between
Bellingham and Seattle: Airport Passenger Facility Charge of $4.50,
Federal Segment Tax of $3.40, and U.S. Security Fee of $2.50. Other
restrictions may apply. See www.horizonair.com for complete fare
rules.
