L-3 Communications (NYSE: LLL) announced today that its L-3
Nautronix Limited division (L-3 Nautronix), has been awarded a
contract by the Australian Government's Defence Materiel Organisation
for the full upgrade of the Hydrographic Survey Suite in the Royal
Australian Navy's PALUMA Class Survey Motor Launches (SML).
Representing new business to L-3, the value of the contract is $35.3
million ($A 43 million).
Acquired by L-3 in June 2006, L-3 Nautronix, based in Fremantle,
Western Australia, is a leading Australian supplier of acoustic,
electronic navigation and integrated systems solutions. For this
program, L-3 is responsible for the provision, integration and
installation of a state-of-the-art suite of hydrographic sensors that
will ensure the accuracy and timeliness of charting the Australian
coastline. The program will comprise fixed, multi-sensor systems for
each of the four SML, three tactical sub-systems for deployment in
vessels of opportunity and six portable systems for use in smaller
vessels in very shallow water. Coupled with an integrated data
management and processing suite, this system will be capable of
producing near real-time hydrographic information for rapid
dissemination to global hydrographic organizations.
"We are very proud to have been selected to undertake this
important program for the Royal Australian Navy. It will substantially
enhance the Navy's hydrographic capability and will add depth to our
own acoustic and integration capabilities," said Mike Gallagher,
Managing Director of L-3 Nautronix.
John Fox, President of L-3 Ocean Systems added, "This is a very
important success for the Ocean Systems Group and particularly for the
growth of our Australian undersea business that will also strengthen
our reach into the region."
