Unison Industries today announced that CFM International and the
FAA have approved its engine-dedicated alternator for the CFM56-5 and
CFM56-7 lines of engines. Unison's new alternator provides electrical
power for the engine's control systems, operating at a lower weight
and cooler temperature than the existing alternator.
"Our alternator runs much cooler than the current alternator due
to its smaller, lighter rotor," said Paul Theofan, Unison's vice
president of marketing and sales. "We believe the reduced weight and
temperature will make it more durable and reliable for operators of
Airbus and Boeing aircraft using CFM56 engines."
Unison's new engine-dedicated alternator is interchangeable, as a
unit, with the alternator it replaces. However, its stator and rotor
are of different sizes than those currently in use, ensuring that
incompatible parts cannot be accidentally installed in the field.
Unison's alternators will be produced at the company's Norwich, New
York, location.
