Unison Electrical, Mechanical Systems Flight-Tested On GEnx
Communiqué publié le 18/06/2007 à 17h15

Unison's electrical and mechanical systems on the GEnx engine performed well as part of four months of flight-testing completed recently by GE Aviation. GE conducted more than 34 flights and 187 hours in the air on a modified 747 test-bed, verifying the GEnx engine's design and electrical requirements for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and accomplishing other major performance objectives. Engine certification is scheduled for later this year.

"Unison is pleased to have its electrical and mechanical systems play a key role in helping GE achieve its performance and delivery targets for the GEnx engine," said Paul Theofan, Unison's vice president of marketing and sales. "We are confident our systems will continue to perform reliably in helping the GEnx meet its aggressive efficiency and reliability goals and achieve certification."

As the Tier 1 integrator on the GEnx, Unison is responsible for the management, manufacture and installation of the engine's key electrical and mechanical systems, including: the ignition system, electric power generation system, anti-ice system, core fire detection and suppression system, multi-functional sensor system, hydraulic system, environmental control system, engine wiring system, and engine tube and duct systems. Unison received its first Tier 1 integration assignment on the GEnx in late 2004.

To date, about 870 GEnx engines have been sold to 30 customers, making it the fastest-selling large engine in GE Aviation history. The GEnx engine is scheduled to enter into service in 2008 on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
