The Very Light Jet-Europe conference opened in Vienna with over 20
industry expert speakers in a two-day event, highlighting one of the
most important next-generation aviation conferences in Europe. The
keynote address was presented by Air Taxi Association President Joe
Leader with his session entitled "Air Taxi and Very Light Jet Takeoff
Velocity: Uniting the Industry, Changing the World, and Driving
Aviation Profitability."
"With a deep focus on very light jets and air taxis, this event
has created tremendous interest across Europe and beyond," said Dr.
Panagiotis Panagopoulos, Managing Director of MIU Events. "Having Joe
Leader provide the keynote address on behalf of the next generation
air taxi industry provided insights to the rapid growth ahead. With
the level of enthusiasm from the audience to his professional and
academic insights, we look forward to future events that bring more
and more people to the incredible opportunities ahead of us all."
The conference was co-chaired by two industry leaders, Chairman of
Interflight Consulting, Oscar S. Garcia, and Commercial Director of
PMI Media, Rainer Vogel. Topics ranged from the operating cost
advantages of very light jets to venture capital forums, while several
European air taxi companies and aircraft manufacturers gave lectures.
Leader also announced that the search for the European Managing
Director of the Air Taxi Association is scheduled to formally launch
next quarter.
"JetBird applauds the Air Taxi Association for underlining its
European focus in its worldwide efforts," JetBird CEO Stefan Vilner
stated. "We look forward to using our market leadership position with
the ATXA to emphasize the importance of private air taxi travel with
the operational efficiencies of low cost carriers."
At the event, Leader made several key announcements on behalf of
and predictions for the next-generation air taxi market:
-- JetBird: JetBird will launch the first Embraer Phenom 100
service in Europe, combining first-class service and low-cost
carrier efficiencies. Stefan Vilner, JetBird's CEO, has not
only led one of Europe's largest low-cost carriers, but also
heads ELFAA, the low-cost carrier association in Europe
(www.flyjetbird.com).
-- DayJet: DayJet is poised to set the bar as the first Eclipse
500 operator in Europe. They are in strategic investment and
partnering discussions with individuals and companies in the
European Union, Middle East, and Africa. In affirming this,
Leader pointed to DayJet's strong VLJ order position,
first-to-market operational experience, and dynamic ASTRO
software that could serve as the backbone of operations far
beyond the United States (www.dayjet.com).
-- EarthJet: Illustrating a US model designed to be implemented
and franchised worldwide, EarthJet's technology is enabling
next week's launch of "BusinessJetSEATS." The service will
provide US charter flights on light jets at 50% of the
traditional rate charter rate, making it the least expensive
charter-by-the-seat model launched to date in the emerging
next-generation air taxi industry. (www.earthjet.com).
-- Other Leading Air Taxi Companies: Leader also made strong
positive mention of other air taxi companies in the US and
Europe that will be receiving their next aircraft soon.
Included in the announcements is Linear Air's expansion of its
charter operations. They will launch their first Eclipse 500
aircraft this summer and intend to rapidly launch their fleet
of 30 Eclipse 500's very light jets in the Northeast United
States. The rapid growth of SATSair and Linear Air is a sign
of the incredible success ahead for next generation air taxi
companies. In forward-looking statements, Leader stated that
Pogo may have one of the strongest branded charter models in
the United States as it is launching next year under the
leadership of former American Airlines CEO Bob Crandall - and
is, in effect, a very light jet version of the newly created
Virgin Charter. In Europe, Taxijet Spain is in line to become
one of the leading Eclipse 500 providers for Southern Europe.
-- Environmental Considerations: In underlining an
environmentally-conscious tone that the emerging industry is
taking, Leader stated that the Air Taxi Association is working
with its members to develop policies that support
environmental responsibility for the next-generation industry.
He highlighted the incredible efficiency of next-generation
engines for the air taxi aircraft utilized by its member
organizations. The fuel efficiency is topped by the fact that
the aircraft are the quietest jets in the world. In addition,
Leader pointed out that the same VLJ aircraft offers better
fuel efficiency with three passengers on board than the
typical American automobile with one passenger. Finally,
next-generation navigation technology could utilize 20% less
fuel than today.
While the European Air Taxi market is estimated to be worth 1
Billion Euros annually, the air taxi does not replace the need for
commercial airline travel. Instead, it dramatically expands the total
available air-travel market and relieves strain on the limited
transport infrastructure. Next-generation technology places people
safely into our skies using underutilized secondary airports.
The Air Taxi Association (ATXA) is leading the revolution in
personal air travel at business airline prices. Backed by leading air
taxi companies, the Air Taxi Association's mission is to speed the
adoption of the air taxi model so that more businesses, individuals,
and communities of all sizes can enjoy the benefits of direct,
on-demand flights.
