Lufthansa today announced it will further expand its Canadian
service with the April 2008 start of daily non-stop flights between
Calgary and the airline's global hub in Frankfurt, Germany. From
Frankfurt, travellers will enjoy convenient connections to more than
135 cities across Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Africa. This
follows Lufthansa's recently announced expansion from Toronto, with
three-cabin service to Dusseldorf launching next May.
Separately, Lufthansa's Star Alliance partner, Air Canada today
announced new nonstop service between Ottawa and Frankfurt. Together,
the Star Alliance partners will offer a combined total of up to 11
daily nonstop connections between Canada and Germany, and will
codeshare on all routes.
Lufthansa's Calgary-Frankfurt route will be operated by a
three-cabin, 221-seat Airbus A330-300, offering travellers an
additional 1547 seats per week between Calgary and Europe. The flight
will feature Lufthansa's new in-flight personal entertainment screens
in Economy Class, its two-meter long PrivateBed in Business Class, and
a premium First Class that includes access to Lufthansa's renowned
First Class Terminal and Lounges in Frankfurt and Munich.
Lufthansa's Calgary-Frankfurt flight complements year-round daily
non-stop service operated by Star Alliance partner, Air Canada. Air
Canada-operated flights depart Calgary at 18:25, arriving in Frankfurt
at 11:55, and depart Frankfurt at 13:45, arriving in Calgary at 15:50.
Air Canada operates these flights using 212-seat Boeing 767-300
aircraft featuring the carrier's new Executive First Suites with lie
flat beds, as well as personal seat back entertainment for all
passengers throughout the aircraft.

The new Lufthansa service will provide Calgary's oil and energy
travelers will convenient connections to more than 30 of the world's
biggest energy destinations, and an exclusive "Oil & Energy Club"
offering instant Frequent Traveller status in Lufthansa's Miles & More
programme, and other special privileges. Further details on
Lufthansa's Oil & Energy program in Calgary will be announced at a
later date.

Flight LH 495 will depart Calgary at 14:45 and arrive in Frankfurt
at 7:55 local time the next day. The return flight LH 494 will leave
Frankfurt at 11:10 and arrive in Calgary at 12:50 local time the same

Lufthansa also offers one-stop service from its Canadian gateways
to six Indian destinations, including Kolkata, Bangalore, Chennai,
Delhi, Hyderabad and Mumbai. The airline has been flying to India for
more than 40 years and is the largest European carrier in the market.
Lufthansa's First Class passengers from Calgary will enjoy
exclusive access to its First Class Terminal and related lounges in
Frankfurt and Munich. Reserved for the use of Lufthansa First Class
passengers and HON Circle members (600,000 miles/two years), the
nearly 1,800 square meter Terminal features personal assistants, a
gourmet restaurant and bar offering more than 70 types of whiskey, a
cigar lounge, offices, luxurious bathrooms and chauffeured transfer
directly to the aircraft in a Mercedes S-class or Porsche Cayenne.
