Communiqué publié le 05/11/2007 à 19h00

Lufthansa today announced it will further expand its Canadian service with the April 2008 start of daily non-stop flights between Calgary and the airline's global hub in Frankfurt, Germany. From Frankfurt, travellers will enjoy convenient connections to more than 135 cities across Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Africa. This follows Lufthansa's recently announced expansion from Toronto, with three-cabin service to Dusseldorf launching next May.

Separately, Lufthansa's Star Alliance partner, Air Canada today announced new nonstop service between Ottawa and Frankfurt. Together, the Star Alliance partners will offer a combined total of up to 11 daily nonstop connections between Canada and Germany, and will codeshare on all routes.

Lufthansa's Calgary-Frankfurt route will be operated by a three-cabin, 221-seat Airbus A330-300, offering travellers an additional 1547 seats per week between Calgary and Europe. The flight will feature Lufthansa's new in-flight personal entertainment screens in Economy Class, its two-meter long PrivateBed in Business Class, and a premium First Class that includes access to Lufthansa's renowned First Class Terminal and Lounges in Frankfurt and Munich.

Lufthansa's Calgary-Frankfurt flight complements year-round daily non-stop service operated by Star Alliance partner, Air Canada. Air Canada-operated flights depart Calgary at 18:25, arriving in Frankfurt at 11:55, and depart Frankfurt at 13:45, arriving in Calgary at 15:50. Air Canada operates these flights using 212-seat Boeing 767-300 aircraft featuring the carrier's new Executive First Suites with lie flat beds, as well as personal seat back entertainment for all passengers throughout the aircraft.

"We're extremely pleased to soon welcome Calgary as Lufthansa's fourth Canadian gateway and our 21st city within our growing North American network," said Jens Bischof, Vice President, the Americas for Lufthansa. "Calgary's thriving business community - especially the petroleum, high-tech and agriculture industries, makes it an ideal choice for premium international service. We look forward to a long and successful partnership."

The new Lufthansa service will provide Calgary's oil and energy travelers will convenient connections to more than 30 of the world's biggest energy destinations, and an exclusive "Oil & Energy Club" offering instant Frequent Traveller status in Lufthansa's Miles & More programme, and other special privileges. Further details on Lufthansa's Oil & Energy program in Calgary will be announced at a later date.

Lufthansa is a welcome addition to our international carrier network," said Julien DeSchutter, Vice President of Marketing for the Calgary Airport Authority. "The International sector is the fastest growing market segment at Calgary International Airport. Lufthansa's presence will help us meet our communities' passenger demand for more seats to Europe."

Flight LH 495 will depart Calgary at 14:45 and arrive in Frankfurt at 7:55 local time the next day. The return flight LH 494 will leave Frankfurt at 11:10 and arrive in Calgary at 12:50 local time the same day. Tickets are available for purchase at www.lufthansa.com, at your local travel agent or by calling Lufthansa reservations in Canada at 800-563-5954.

Lufthansa also offers one-stop service from its Canadian gateways to six Indian destinations, including Kolkata, Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad and Mumbai. The airline has been flying to India for more than 40 years and is the largest European carrier in the market.

Lufthansa's First Class passengers from Calgary will enjoy exclusive access to its First Class Terminal and related lounges in Frankfurt and Munich. Reserved for the use of Lufthansa First Class passengers and HON Circle members (600,000 miles/two years), the nearly 1,800 square meter Terminal features personal assistants, a gourmet restaurant and bar offering more than 70 types of whiskey, a cigar lounge, offices, luxurious bathrooms and chauffeured transfer directly to the aircraft in a Mercedes S-class or Porsche Cayenne.
