Rolls-Royce has donated $50,000 to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical
University (ERAU) to endow several named Customer Business
scholarships at the school. All Rolls-Royce Customer Business scholars
will be selected by the ERAU Scholarship Committee and the first
recipients are expected to be named this fall.
Rolls-Royce initiated support for Embry-Riddle in 2003 announcing
donations in excess of $1.6 million - a combination of in-kind gifts
and scholarship funding. That year, the company provided two engines,
training support, engine hardware and initial scholarship funds to the
school. Since then, the engines have been housed in the Rolls-Royce
Propulsion & Systems Laboratory in the College of Aviation building on
the school's Daytona Beach campus. The Lab is used to teach the
fundamentals of propulsion systems and technology to students in the
Aeronautical Sciences program. Scholarship funding has been paid to
the school on an annual basis since 2003, with the final installment
delivered this year.
David Waggoner, Rolls-Royce Vice President and a 1986 ERAU
graduate, presented the final payment to the school during the
Experimental Aircraft Association Conference in OshKosh, Wisconsin,
earlier this year. "Customer relationships and quality are critical to
the future of our industry. These Rolls-Royce scholarships honor a
dedication to both as well as excellence in academic performance. We
are delighted to support Embry-Riddle through this new partnership,"
Waggoner said.
Accepting on behalf of the school, Dan Montplaisir, Vice President
of Advancement for ERAU added: "We are proud of our partnership with
Rolls-Royce, and look forward to establishing this scholarship program
and identifying the inaugural recipients of this annual award during
this school year."
