Basis Technology today announced the internationalization and
localization of the WindTracer(R) Lidar system into Japanese, enabling
Lockheed Martin Coherent Technologies (LMCT) to install its second
system at Tokyo International Airport in Narita for the Japanese
Meteorological Agency in early 2008.
The WindTracer Lidar system is a remarkable technology that
detects the wind activity and provides advanced warning of wind
hazards such as wind shear - sudden changes in wind speed and
direction over a relatively short distance. The data from the
WindTracer Lidar is vital during dangerous weather conditions and can
prevent wind shear related accidents.
The WindTracer has been successfully used by airports,
continuously scanning the approach and departure corridors, and
enabling the air traffic control personnel to offer precise, timely
direction to pilots during their most critical phase of flight.
Basis Technology's internationalization work involved modifying
software code to process and display Japanese text correctly,
translating the user interface to Japanese, and providing on-site
testing and engineering. With the modified code, LMCT is now able to
quickly and easily localize the interface for other languages and
countries, thus expanding the market reach of WindTracer to airports
worldwide.
"We were on a very tight schedule to meet the requirements and
inspection deadline of our customer," said Keith Barr, Project Manager
at LMCT. "Basis Technology's engineers worked collaboratively with our
engineers to meet that deadline, and they came in on time and on
budget. They are our preferred provider for LMCT future
internationalization projects."
"Basis Technology excels at providing thorough and accurate
internationalization services for complex technologies with large code
bases," said Wendy Sheehan, VP of Engineering at Basis Technology. "We
are proud to be a part of a project that is enabling aviation safety
to airports worldwide."
