Barbecan Announces High Traffic Security Portal for Airport Entrance Doorways
SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Barbecan Security Systems, LLC, an Intellectual Property and development company, today announced their patent-pending Linear Revolving Door (LRD) security portal technology for secure area entrances requiring high flow rates of pedestrian traffic.
Monday's bombing attack at Moscow’s Domodedovo Airport demonstrates a significant vulnerability at many airports. For instance, US airports only screen passengers at the security checkpoints for departures. Main entrances are unguarded and people are free to enter arrival, baggage claim, and ticketing areas with luggage that could contain ANYTHING. In fact, an un-checked carry-on bag could be wheeled into the midst of a densely crowded queue at a security checkpoint, whereupon a detonation might conceivably cause twice the causalities of the Domodedovo bombing.
Adding conventional security checks at airport main entrances would be challenging. Conventional checkpoints have extremely slow throughput and main entrance doors have high traffic. Establishing queues outside is unacceptable due to weather. The LRD Robotic Security Portal is a high-traffic, robotic door system that operates unattended and can be integrated with one or more threat detection technologies to stop people with guns and/or explosives. Unlike conventional checkpoints, when a potential threat is detected, the suspect is physically PREVENTED by the LRD Portal from passing through.
Video animations for PCs and video animations for MACs showing the LRD Portal in action can be seen on the Barbecan website. Note that the tops of portals have been removed for clarity. In reality the tops would be sealed to prevent weapon passing.
High traffic applications for LRD Portals include:
- Airport Main Entrances
- Airport Exit Lane Breach Control (one-way door without threat sensors)
- Military Bases, Embassies, and Consulates
- Refugee Processing Checkpoints (Middle East)
- Government Buildings and Courthouses
- Ground Transportation - Train, Underground, Bus, and Ferry
- Stadiums and Conference Halls
- Customs and Immigration Checkpoints
- Hotels and Office Buildings
- Banks
- Marketplaces and Malls
- Factories
- High schools, Colleges, and Universities
Both US and International (PCT) patent applications have been filed for the LRD Portal technology. For more information on technology licensing and joint venture opportunities, please contact: [email protected].
