American Science and Engineering, Inc. Receives its First Order for SIM HT from European Country Military Army Corps

BILLERICA, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--American Science and Engineering, Inc. (“AS&E”) (NASDAQ:ASEI), a leader in X-ray detection technology, announced today the receipt of its first order for a SIM HT (SmartCheck® Inspection Module High-Throughput) from a European Country Military Army Corps. The SIM HT system incorporates a dual configuration of AS&E’s SmartCheck system for higher-throughput capability and is built on a ruggedized platform for harsh environments and easy relocation. The SIM HT system gives security officials a fast, reliable, and safe way to screen people for threats and contraband in remote locations and harsh environments.

“Designed for personnel inspection at high-risk checkpoints, the SIM HT system provides rapid detection of explosive threats and contraband hidden on a person’s body”

“Designed for personnel inspection at high-risk checkpoints, the SIM HT system provides rapid detection of explosive threats and contraband hidden on a person’s body,” said Anthony Fabiano, President and CEO. “With its Z Backscatter technology, the SIM HT system is designed to combat evolving security threats to military personnel by imaging the widest range of contraband concealed on a person.”

About SIM HT

The SIM HT system offers AS&E’s proven SmartCheck personnel screening system within an ISO container for easy relocation. The system provides security officials with a safe, non-intrusive means to detect both organic and inorganic threats hidden on a person. ZBackscatter technology gives the operator easy-to-interpret information about where threats are hidden, thus eliminating the need for intrusive and time-consuming pat-down searches. System operation and image analysis are done remotely by one person for optimum safety.

Since the SIM HT system uses Z Backscatter X-ray technology, it is safe for both operators and scanned individuals. A scanned person receives about the same amount of radiation as a person flying for two minutes at an altitude of 30,000 feet, or less than 10 microrem (0.1 microsieverts) per scan. SIM HT meets the manufacturer’s requirements of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standard N43.17, which is the standard that the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH) references for these systems.
