SRS Labs to Deliver HD-Quality Audio on Rockwell Collins' In-flight Entertainment System
SANTA ANA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--SRS Labs (NASDAQ:SRSL), the industry leader in surround sound, audio enhancement, and voice post-processing technologies, announced today that it has been selected by Rockwell Collins to integrate SRS WOW HD within their second generation dPAVES™ airline in-flight entertainment (IFE) system, allowing passengers to enjoy HD-quality audio for music and movies and get completely immersed in their in-flight entertainment experience.
Many people don’t realize that there are a lot of similarities between Rockwell Collins and SRS Labs given that SRS Labs was spun out of Hughes Aircraft Corporation and that one of our core technologies was specifically developed for the aerospace industry to improve voice communications between pilots, quoted Allen H. Gharapetian, Senior Vice President of Marketing for SRS Labs. We are very excited to be working with Rockwell Collins to bring our world-class audio enhancement solutions to their in-flight entertainment systems and are confident that airline passengers across the globe will appreciate the added clarity and detail of their overall audio entertainment experience courtesy of our award-winning WOW HD technology, he continued.
SRS WOW HD™ optimizes multimedia files to provide an uncompromised audio experience over headphones, through dynamically enhanced bass, greater high-frequency clarity and a remarkably natural and enveloping surround sound stage. The patented techniques within SRS WOW HD bring out the subtle nuances and buried sound within the source material to deliver a fuller, richer and more natural audio experience resulting in drastically improved clarity and detail.
Integrated into Rockwell Collins’ dPAVES high-definition media server (HDMS), the virtual surround sound, provided by SRS WOW HD™, fully immerses passengers in a theater-like experience that is tunable to any headset. According to Dave Austin, Vice President and General Manager, Cabin Systems for Rockwell Collins, WOW HD’s ‘on the fly’ processing allows any media file type to be output with virtual surround sound over headphones − a first for the industry – giving passengers a consistent HD entertainment experience.
