LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--DialAFlight, one of the UK’s leading travel operators, are delighted to announce that there is still ample time to book flights to Bangkok and attend this year’s River Kwai Light and Sound festival in Kanchanaburi, western Thailand.

“DialAFlight are delighted to able to offer our customers with money saving flights to Bangkok. We have great deals running throughout November, so if you are thinking of attending the festival, there is still plenty of time to book flights.”

The twelve day event, set to take place this year on Friday 25th November, is widely considered to be the ‘best festival in Thailand’, and consistently attracts thousands of tourists to the town of Kanchanaburi each year.

The impressive light show, projected over the famous bridge running across the River Kwai, is the showpiece event during twelve days of organised celebrations. However, there are also live musical performances every evening and a free-to-taste open market, promoting local Thai delicacies.

The festival celebrates the moment allied forces severely hampered Japanese transport links in Southeast Asia by blowing up a rail bridge crossing the River Kwai during World War II- an event fictionalised in the book ‘The Bridge over the River Kwai’ by Pierre Boulle.

Although the book’s depiction of certain events has been refuted by both historians and ex-prisoners of war alike, the destruction of the bridge is widely believed to have helped end the war in Southeast Asia.

Despite being re-built and declared fully operational, the bridge is now solely used to attract foreign tourists to this rural part of Thailand. The book’s film adaptation, which bagged seven Oscars, has certainly helped attract foreigners to Kanchanaburi.

Commenting on the festival, a spokesperson for DialAFlight said today:

“Having attended the River Kwai Light and Sound festival two years ago, I can’t recommend it enough. The local people are so welcoming, the live music is tremendous and the food is fantastic. You really get a slice of traditional Thai culture visiting the town and of course it’s swathed in history as well, so if you’re interested in history, this beautiful village is well worth a visit whilst in Thailand.”
