Eaglets Begin Hatching At Alcoa

RIVERDALE, Iowa--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The hatching of three eggs in an eagle’s nest near the giant Alcoa (NYSE:AA) aluminum rolling mill in Iowa has started. Viewers from around the world are connecting to the Alcoa EagleCam to see if all three eggs in the nest hatch. This is the third year the parent eagles, named Liberty and Justice, have used the nest and the second year the Alcoa EagleCam has provided an opportunity to watch live.

“We believe it is a testament to the work our employees have done to reduce air emissions and water use dramatically during the past couple of decades.”

“Alcoa employees are always proud to see their material flying through the sky as part of a jet plane, hauling products across the country as part of a truck or train, or improving gas mileage as part of the family car, but right now they are also pretty proud of this pair of eagles nesting at the plant," said John Riches, Alcoa Davenport Community Relations Manager.

Last year Alcoa’s “EagleCam” received nearly 1.5 million hits. “We are proud to share this natural wonder around the globe,” Riches said. “We believe it is a testament to the work our employees have done to reduce air emissions and water use dramatically during the past couple of decades.”

Alcoa consulted with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service before installing the first camera nearly two years ago to make sure the nest was not disturbed in the process. “We knew employees would be interested in seeing the nest in real time. The interest from the community and beyond has really been amazing,” said Riches. “We have had hits from dozens of countries and virtually every continent.” Hundreds of schools in the U.S. and around the world are tuning in as part of classroom activities.
