Hello everybody,
so this is a topic about the aviation vocabulary, if you have a french word about aviation, and if you want to now the english equivalent, put it in this topic, I hope that people who are good in aviation's english on the forum will give you traductions that you need. I will begin by puting an instrument list:
Anémomètre
Indicateur d'assiette
Altimètre
Indicateur de virage
Conservateur de cap
Variomètre

From my old time in aeronautics :

Anémomètre : Airspeed Indicator or Machmeter
Indicateur d'assiette : ADI (Attitude Director Indicator)
Altimètre : Altimeter
Indicateur de virage : Turn Bank Indicator
Conservateur de cap : Autopilot ???
Variomèetre : Vertical Speed Indicator

This needs confirmation, of course !!!

Thank you pals, "from your old time in aeronautics", was you pilot?
And also thank you Curufinwe for telling that it is a good topic! smile

And when I said "conservateur de cap", I didn't thought to the autopilot, but I spoke about the one usualy between the Turn Bank Indicator and the Vertical Speed Indicator.

I'm not a pilot, but I've worked for a french airline (UTA). At this time, I was in charge of the engeenering related to ATA 22 chapter (Autopilot). So I had the opportunity to fly the DC10 simulator several times. May be this is why I've never tried to learn to fly a small aircraft. I was more interested to fly "the system" than the aircraft itself...

This explain that I've not a good translation for "conservateur de cap" as this kind of device does not fit a DC10...

all the translations done by "pals" are good wink ,but i think that the right translation of "Conservateur de cap" is "gyroscope directional garde-cap (pronouced in english of coure:)because we have same words in frensh:p)"
happy new year to all of you
