RTI and Verocel Partner to Offer Safety-Critical Architecture Assessment for Distributed Systems
SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Real-Time Innovations (RTI), The Real-Time Middleware Experts, and Verocel, Inc., a provider of safety-critical software services, today announce a partnership to offer a comprehensive safety-critical certifiability architecture assessment for distributed systems.
The new Safety-Critical Architecture Assessment addresses the difficult task of designing systems that cost-effectively meet safety certification criteria — even as a system is enhanced over time. Leveraging the expertise provided in this assessment during the design phase of a safety-critical project can result in an optimal architecture that is certifiable, extensible and affordable.
“Designing with certification in mind from the start is crucial to the successful development of safety-critical applications,” said George Romanski, president of Verocel, Inc. “This upfront design effort with a focus on certifiability pays off in reduced project risk, lower cost and maintained certifiability should new or legacy software modules be added.”
The jointly designed Safety-Critical Architecture Assessment combines and extends prior services offerings from both RTI and Verocel.
RTI currently offers RTI Data Distribution Service, Safety-Critical Edition, which is the first commercial, standards-based middleware solution for developing distributed safety-critical applications. Safety-Critical Edition provides a high-performance, application-layer messaging infrastructure that enables easy integration between distributed components of avionics systems, including sensors, actuators, displays and ground-control stations. Safety-Critical Edition is architected to be deterministic, which facilitates the certifiability of the technology to RTCA/DO-178B (EUROCAE ED-12B) Level A. RTI will support the rigor of certification by providing tests to verify requirements and adapt the software to meet program-specific functional requirements. In addition, RTI will provide the certification artifacts required to satisfy the objectives of DO-178B.
Verocel provides expertise and services for safety-critical software verification in avionics, ground-based aviation and the industrial sectors. The company brings expertise in the formidable task of coordinating and delivering traceability and artifact evidence materials for certification criteria. The new Safety-Critical Architecture Assessment extends the current RTI Architecture Study by adding an in-depth focus on safety-critical requirements. This includes analysis of data distribution, system integration, platform architecture and certification requirements such as DO-178B/ED-12B Level A.
“RTI Data Distribution Service is rapidly being architected into more and more systems, requiring organizations to grapple with new safety-certification regulations. By addressing certification requirements from both a data-distribution and overall system perspective, developers can help safeguard the resulting system architecture and ensure that it is more efficient, upgradeable and cost effective resulting in an architecture that can be relied upon to meet the certification rigor required,” commented Dave Scheibenhoffer, director of Services Sales at RTI.
