![]() ----------- Extrait -------------------- http://www.quote.com/news/story.action?id=KRO281e8442 Docking system at D/FW Airport lets jets park themselves Tuesday October 07, 2008 01:50:45 EDT D/FW AIRPORT, Oct 07, 2008 (Fort Worth Star-Telegram - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX News Network) -- Lightning used to require Dallas/Fort Worth Airport to clear workers out of the ramp area near the terminals, a safety necessity that sometimes left passengers stranded on planes just short of the gate. In an attempt to prevent such customer pitfalls, D/FW officials have installed an autodocking system for American Airlines. In essence, Safedock is a laser-based guidance system that allows pilots to self-park at a gate. (No more ramp workers waving the orange wands.) The system, which is relatively rare in the U.S. but common in Europe, Asia and the Middle East, was originally seen as a way to make docking faster when ramp crews were already occupied with other flights. At D/FW, however, severe thunderstorms are a seasonal issue in the spring and fall -- and the system gives the airport a solution to stranded flights. "In Europe, they don't have the weather so they didn't think of it this way," said Jim Crites, executive vice president of operations. "We had the necessity here, so we thought it up." Now, when severe weather hits, the planes can proceed -- on their own -- to their assigned gates and the passengers can disembark. How does it work? An interface with D/FW's airport operations database tells Safedock the details of an aircraft as it lands and approaches the gate, said Tom Duffy, president of Minneapolis-based Safegate Airport Systems, a subsidiary of Sweden-based Safegate Group. The docking system automatically starts up and scans the aircraft with a laser, measuring its profile and comparing it with pre-programmed profiles. A display, typically on the terminal wall, guides the pilot to the proper stop position, counting down the remaining feet and using directional arrows. The display flashes "stop" when the plane is in the right position. _________________ JPRS |

Encore une ligne d'Europe Centrale à ramasser !! Malev Hongrie ! http://www.budapesttimes.hu/content/view/9989/219/ Malév pilots organise demo, airline in doubt Monday, 17 November 2008 As a part of the “OneWorld Cockpit Crew Coalition Conference”, an international demonstration was held by the National Association of Pilots (Hunalpa) at the headquarters of Malév last Friday. Vice president of the association Kálmán Kiss told the daily Magyar Hírlap that, in general, pilots were worried about the Hungarian national airline and their jobs, and believed that management of Malév still has no plan on how to handle the crisis. The protest, however, was directly triggered by the airline’s continued firing of its employees, despite the fact that Hunalpa (of which 95% of members are Malév pilots) objected to the layoffs in court, which by law has a delay effect of 15 days. The Allied Pilots Association, which is a union of 12,000 American Airlines (AA) pilots, announced its support of Hunalpa’s action on Thursday. Meanwhile the daily Magyar Nemzet reported last Friday that the Hungarian airline was on the brink of bankruptcy as it relies heavily on the benevolence of its creditors and suppliers. The biggest debt Malév has is on the managing company of Ferihegy Budapest Airport (BA). According to sources of the daily, it is not in the interests of BA to declare the airline bankrupt, with Malév having outstanding obligations of HUF 5-10 billion (EUR 18.45-36.87 million). _________________ JPRS |

Donc Wait & See ! Mais il y à +/- consensus ... Clickair et Vueling, ne tiennent plus seules ! On va vers une IB low cost Cy ! _________________ JPRS |

Delta North West ... Merger ... ![]() ----------- Extrait seattle PI ----------------- http://blog.seattlepi.nwsource.com/aero ... 154674.asp Delta will buy from both Boeing and Airbus Delta CEO Richard Anderson was in Seattle Monday, and I asked him about the 787 as well as Delta staying a very loyal Boeing customer. Northwest, which is now part of Delta, has 18 Dreamliners on firm order with options to buy 50 more. Even though Northwest is a big Airbus customer for the A330, Delta has stuck with Boeing. Not any more, Anderson told me. My report is below: BY James Wallace P-I aerospace reporter Although Delta Air Lines has long been one of The Boeing Co.'s most loyal customers, don't look for the world's largest airline to buy new jets from just Boeing in the future. "Delta will be an opportunistic purchaser of airplanes and that will include both Boeing and Airbus,'' Delta Chief Executive Richard Anderson said Monday during a visit to Seattle to announce a new partnership agreement with Alaska Airlines. When it comes time to buy more jets, Delta will also consider smaller regional planes made by Canada's Bombardier and Brazil's Embraer, Anderson said. "Given our size, the breadth of our network and the variety of places that we fly, we will be customers for all the major suppliers,'' he said. Delta recently received the federal OK to complete its merger with Northwest, which will make it the world's biggest airline once it receives a single operating certificate from the Federal Aviation Administration. That's about 15 to 18 months away. Northwest is one of only three U.S. airlines to so far order Boeing's 787 Dreamliner, which is more than 14 months late. Continental was an early 787 customer and American ordered the plane last month. Anderson said Boeing has not given Northwest a new firm delivery date for its first 787s. After a recently ended 57-day strike by the Machinists union, and a new issue with improperly installed 787 fasteners, Boeing is reassessing its 787 delivery schedule. Before the strike and fastener issue, Boeing was expecting to delivery the first 787s in August of next year. Industry analysts now believe those deliveries will be pushed back into 2010, but just how far remains to be seen. Anderson said the 787 will be a good fit for the merged airline. "It's a pretty remarkable airplane,'' he said of the Dreamliner, which will be the first large passenger plane with a composite airframe. It will also have a number of cabin innovations to enhance the flying experience for passengers. "Boeing has done a nice job on the innovation, but it remains to be seen when we get delivery of the airplane at this point,'' Anderson said. He was asked about industry speculation that Delta, unlike Northwest, believes the 787 is too small for its long-haul routes and that Delta would prefer a bigger plane such as the Airbus A350 that is in development. Re-bonjopur, beochien. Merci !

![]() _________________ JPRS |

2008 ? Non ! 2028! Lien : http://www.flightglobal.com/articles/20 ... -2028.html DATE:18/11/08. SOURCE:Flight International Can flight level 550 save the climate in 2028? By Rob Coppinger A double-deck 72.2m (237ft)-span swept wing passenger jet with two aft mounted Rolls-Royce Trent-like engines and an altitude ceiling of 55,000ft (16,700m) has been proposed as a more environmentally friendly airliner by a group of former UK aerospace engineers, calling their project Stratos. Cruising at 47,000ft at a speed of 505kt (934km/h), the 63.4m-long Stratos would have a 19,300km (10,400nm) range with 256-passengers in an all-sleeper configuration and is envisaged to be in service from 2028. ----------------- l'article Flight Global ------------------- http://www.flightglobal.com/articles/20 ... et-by.html South African Airways plans to replace entire fleet by 2020 By Brendan Sobie South African Airways (SAA) plans to select in mid-2009 one manufacturer to supply replacements for its entire 50-aircraft fleet by 2020, as well a modest amount of growth aircraft. SAA head of business development Jason Krause says the Star Alliance carrier has put Airbus and Boeing "on notice" to expect a request for proposals in early 2009 for narrowbodies as well as both current and new generation widebodies. He says SAA is hoping to begin deliveries of current-generation aircraft in early 2010, as near-term delivery slots have suddenly become available due to the current economic downturn, while Airbus A350s or Boeing 787s are expected to follow from about 2015. Krause reveals SAA already has completed a draft request for proposals and is in the process of hiring an advisor to help it prepare a final version by the end of the first quarter of 2009. As SAA has already shared data with both manufacturers and begun reviewing products, Krause expects the carrier will be able to make a selection in mid-2009. "We've done some planning so we have a very strong sense what we want either way," Krause says. "Once we get proposals in, it won't take us long to evaluate." SAA first revealed in May that its board had approved new medium- and long-term fleet plans and an "aircraft supply competition" would begin "as soon as possible". Krause says SAA has since decided to roll all its narrowbody and widebody requirements into one broad competition. "We need a plan for both so we might as well get going on both," he says. "And the manufacturers want to have a more interesting competition." SAA's most pressing requirement is widebodies as the carrier is capacity-constrained and unable to expand its long-haul operation. It is seeking delivery slots starting in 2010, which Krause is confident it can secure because "we've noticed some airlines are not taking up their slots". SAA is also seeking new widebodies to replace its fleet of six Airbus A340-200s in about 2013, as their leases expire. Krause says SAA will most likely opt for A330s or A340s for the first part of its widebody requirement, even if Boeing wins the competition. "Boeing may have to help us get A330s and A340s because they can't unravel our fleet so quickly," he explains, adding that the carrier would need a "total solution". For the second part of the widebody requirement, from 2015 to 2020, SAA is expected to replace its fleet of six A340-300Es and nine A340-600s with A350s or 787s. By the end of the programme, it will also replace the A330s or A340s it acquires at the beginning. SAA is expected to opt for more than one type of 787 or A350, with the A350-1000 or 787-10 potentially being used on SAA's most important route, Johannesburg-London. British Airways and Virgin Atlantic Airways both plan eventually to use the Airbus A380 on this route but SAA, at least for now, has excluded the A380 from the current competition. On the narrowbody side, deliveries could also begin as early as 2010 or 2011 as leases on SAA's 17 737-800s start to expire. SAA subleases four of these aircraft to low-cost subsidiary Mango, which has expressed interest in adding more 737s if SAA opts to switch to an all Airbus fleet. Airbus is seen as the favourite in the competition as SAA's fleet is primarily Airbus and the manufacturer still has on its order books 15 A320s for delivery to SAA from 2010. These aircraft were part an order SAA placed with Airbus in 2002 that also included six A340-300Es, nine A340-600s and 11 A319s, all of which are now in SAA's fleet. SAA said in 2004 it no longer wanted the A320s but Airbus has never acknowledged the cancellation and sources say that, until recently, SAA continued to make pre-delivery payments. Krause says SAA's chief financial officer is discussing with Airbus a method for dealing with the outstanding A320 order and this dialogue is completely separate from the talks that SAA's aircraft-acquisition team is having with Airbus in regards to the new request for proposals. But he says: "Obviously it's a decision that could have an impact on the fleet plan going forward." SAA, however, is trying to create as robust a competition as possible. "We've allowed Boeing to see data in our organisation so they can start constructing solutions for us," Krause says. "They have the data they need. The RFP will just formalise this."
