Smiths Detection’s Air Cargo Solutions Help Commercial Freight Services Meet TSA Screening Mandates
PINE BROOK, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Smiths Detection today announces Commercial Freight Services, Inc. (CFS) of Romulus, Michigan, has selected the company’s trace detection and X-ray solutions to meet Transportation Security Administration (TSA) air cargo screening mandate deadlines.
CFS is deploying an IONSCAN 500DT, a desktop explosives trace detector, and a HI-SCAN 180180-2is, a pallet sized X-ray solution. Both will be used to pre-screen various sized cargo that will be loaded on passenger aircraft to comply with the February 2009 and August 2010 screening deadlines set by TSA.
IONSCAN 500DT is the latest in Smiths Detection’s desktop trace explosives detection technologies and can detect tiny amounts of explosives from a single sample in a few seconds. The HI-SCAN 180180-2is is a dual-view X-ray system that screens whole pallets of cargo allowing for high throughput while maintaining critical security levels.
Commercial Freight Services is participating in the TSA’s Indirect Air Carrier Screening Technology Pilot and is a Certified Cargo Screening Facility (CCSF).
Dwight Fairchild, Vice President of Commercial Freight Services, said: “Our early experience with the IONSCAN 500DT has been exceptional, and we look forward to the HI-SCAN 180180-2is installation later this month. The quality, ease of use and advanced data capabilities have made reporting to TSA a simple process.”
Mark Laustra, Vice President of Homeland Security, Smiths Detection, said: “Our trace detection and pallet sized X-ray systems are ideal for freight forwarders, airlines and indirect air carriers. Our air cargo screening solutions are designed for high performance, accuracy and longevity, thus providing the highest level of security to meet TSA’s air cargo screening mandates.”
