Global Parts Manufacturer Approval (PMA) parts sector to reach $762.8m by 2017: companiesandmarkets.com
LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The PMA parts market is set to grow rapidly as air traffic increases and competition mounts between OEMs and PMA manufacturers, according to a new report on companiesandmarkets.com.
Parts Manufacturer Approval (PMA) Parts: A Global Strategic Business

PMA is a combined design and production approval process, effectively controlled by the US FAA. The PMA parts market is set to grow as economies recover post-recession, and aircraft orders and air traffic increases, with emerging regions such as India and China likely to drive growth. The US and Europe are likely to maintain their positions as the regions with the highest demand for PMA parts, and the components and engines segments will attract the most orders over the reporting period.
While PMA parts only account for 3-4% of the aircraft spare parts market, they are responsible for holding back prices of OEM products, which can up to 50% more expensive. OEMs are understandably concerned about the impact of this and have campaigned over reliability and safety issues, which they claim can affect PMA parts.
Airlines are understood to be adopting PMA spares over OEM parts to reduce MRO costs and enhance performance. In some cases, aftermarket PMA part performance has proven to be better, as manufacturers are not restricted in terms of the technologies they use.
