Daylight Solutions Provides Laser Access to 3.27 µm – Direct Observation of Hydrocarbon Stretches
Dépèche transmise le 22 janvier 2011 par Business Wire
SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Daylight Solutions, Inc., a world-leading supplier of tunable mid-infrared lasers, molecular imaging, sensing, and illumination devices, announces the addition of a 3.2 µm (3060 cm-1) model to its successful Über Tuner broad-tuning laser product line. A newly-developed semiconductor diode laser has been packaged in Daylight Solutions’ patented External Cavity Laser resonator to extend the available wavelengths to the short edge of the mid-IR.
“This wavelength capability was developed to access the C-H stretching frequencies of methane and other hydrocarbons”
The new systems are highly functional and provide milliwatt-level 3.2 µm light in a single-stage device. “This wavelength capability was developed to access the C-H stretching frequencies of methane and other hydrocarbons,” said Dr. Michael Radunsky, Product Marketing Manager for Daylight Solutions scientific products. “Our customers have been requesting high power and direct access and we are pleased to be able to provide this performance. The ECdL™ (External Cavity Diode Laser) design obviates the need for non-linear technologies such as parametric oscillators or difference frequency generation, thus simplifying the source and simultaneously improving performance. We believe the laser source used by a researcher should be a tool for, rather than the focus of the experiment.” This laser will serve Green House Gas Monitoring, Combustion Science, Kinetics, and many other applications.
The new ÜT-3 laser will provide over 200 cm-1 of tunable coverage centered on the asymmetric stretching region of hydrocarbons, including methane. It will operate in both pulsed and cw modes with linewidths as narrow as 100 MHz (0.003 cm-1). “All of our previous Über Tuner lasers have only operated in pulsed mode,” said Radunsky. “However, this chip actually represents our broadest tuning cw performance to date. This new performance realizes our strategy to provide more coverage at more wavelengths.” Follow-on products will include dedicated OEM devices for sensing and fugitive gas emissions detection.
“We are excited to introduce our first non-QCL-based laser product,” Daylight Solutions’ President Paul Larson said. “We have always held that it is the market that drives our technology, not our expertise in quantum cascade gain media. The diode serves our customers’ needs.”
The ÜT-3 is now available from Daylight Solutions. For further information, contact Chris Armacost at carmacost@daylightsolutions.com or (858) 432-7508.
