CMTC Assists Centerpoint Manufacturing Achieve AS9100 Certification
TORRANCE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--While many Southern California manufacturers are scaling back their operations or reducing staff in this challenging economic climate, Centerpoint Manufacturing is investing in their company and achieving results. The Burbank-based producer of precision machining has recently become certified in the impressive AS 9100 Quality Management System. This standard adds quality and safety elements that are specific to the aerospace and defense industry and offers companies a competitive advantage for securing business with prime contractors. Centerpoint specializes in CNC Milling and Turning along with Honing, Drilling, Grinding, Deburring, and Moderate Assembly. Centerpoint is currently offering manufacturing solutions for a well diversified customer list which covers the Aerospace, Industrial, Agricultural, Medical, and Entertainment industries spread out through the Southern California area.
“The Centerpoint Team has really taken the AS 9100 standard and philosophy to heart, this has greatly improved their manufacturing processes, quality and on-time delivery to a world class operation.”
The 40-year-old, family-owned company engaged the services of California Manufacturing Technology Consulting® (CMTC) to assist them with the detailed requirements of AS 9100 implementation. The company also received support from the Verdugo Workforce Investment Board, whose mission is to enhance workforce quality, job opportunities, and economic vitality in the region. Representatives from local legislative leaders Congressman Brad Sherman, California State Senator Carol Liu and California Assemblyman Mike Gatto have been invited to attend a graduation celebration for Centerpoint to be held at Centerpoint Manufacturing in Burbank on April 7, 2011 at 2PM.
To win certification, the 25-employee company conducted quality assessments of the incoming product, set management objectives, and analyzed data. CMTC® consultants worked with the company’s executives and staff to develop processes and conduct training over 7 months. The changes made during that period have already increased on-time delivery and performance for customers and helped them control their operating costs. David Bye, the CMTC® consultant who worked directly with Centerpoint, said the company predicts sales will increase in the neighborhood of 30 to 50 percent in the next 12 months. The company was completely committed to the effort, he said: “The Centerpoint Team has really taken the AS 9100 standard and philosophy to heart, this has greatly improved their manufacturing processes, quality and on-time delivery to a world class operation.”
