Metropolitan Airports Commission Officials Pleased Southwest Airlines Adding Service to Denver

MINNEAPOLIS & ST. PAUL, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC) officials today hailed Southwest Airlines’ announcement that it would add daily direct service between Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport and Denver International Airport. The announcement came less than a month after Southwest began serving MSP, with eight daily flights to Chicago Midway Airport.

“I am pleasantly surprised that Southwest decided to expand operations at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport so soon,” said MAC Chairman Jack Lanners. “Denver is a great destination and an important transportation link to cities throughout the western United States.”

MAC Executive Director Jeff Hamiel noted that from Denver, travelers can connect on Southwest Airlines to 37 other cities. “The new service means added competition and lower fares on flights to Denver and destinations beyond,” Hamiel said. “At a time when air service is contracting across the nation, it is great to see Southwest energetically expanding its service at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. We hope to see continued expansion of Southwest service in the months and years ahead.”

Southwest will operate three flights a day from MSP to Denver beginning May 26, 2009.
