Logistics Unlimited Joins U.S. EPA SmartWay Transport® Partnership
IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Logistics Unlimited (LUI) took the occasion of St. Patrick’s day to announce that it joined the SmartWaySM Transport Partnership, an innovative collaboration between U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the freight industry designed to increase energy efficiency while significantly reducing greenhouse gases and air pollution.
LUI will contribute to the Partnership’s goal to reduce 33 to 66 million metric tons of carbon dioxide and up to 200,000 tons of nitrogen oxide per year by 2012 by improving the environmental performance of our freight operations. Carbon dioxide is the most common greenhouse gas, and nitrogen oxide is an air pollutant that contributes to smog. By joining SmartWay Transport Partnership, LUI demonstrates its strong environmental leadership and corporate responsibility.
“LUI has always been an innovative logistics company and is pleased to be part of the Smartway Program which permits our customers to achieve their own environmental goals while promoting more efficient transportation methods,” said Ted Shown, President of LUI.
Launched in February 2004, the SmartWay Transport Partnership aims to achieve fuel savings of up to 150 million barrels of fuel per year. The Partnership brings together major freight shippers, trucking companies, railroads, logistics companies and trade/professional associations to pursue mutually beneficial efficiencies that result in emissions reductions and other environmental improvements, as well as cost savings to the companies. The Partnership currently has approximately 1,500 partners.
Headquartered in Irvine, California, LUI is a non-asset based freight forwarder providing comprehensive global transportation services from offices in Los Angeles, Minneapolis and Chicago. Incorporating web-enabled technologies, LUI leverages sophisticated transportation management and incorporates web-enabled information technologies to deliver proactive customer service and time-definite service options.
