Morpho Detection’s Trace Explosives Detection Desktop System Receives Fifth International Authorization
NEWARK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Morpho Detection, Inc., part of Morpho, Safran group’s security business, today announced the Italian Department of Transport has authorized its Itemiser® DX explosives trace detection system as meeting its particularly demanding requirements for use in that nation’s aviation security applications.
“We are confident in Itemiser DX’ ability to deliver the most advanced explosives detection possible to checkpoint, air cargo and checked bag screening at Italian airports.”
The Italian authorization follows similar certifications by the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office, the United Kingdom Department for Transport and the UK Home Office Scientific Development Branch (HOSDB), as well as the Dutch Defence, Safety and Security Organization (TNO).
The lightweight, effective, and user-friendly Itemiser DX also meets the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) strict detection standards. To date, TSA has purchased more than 2,800 Itemiser DX systems for use at U.S. airports.
”We are very pleased Itemiser DX has received authorization for civil aviation applications from the Italian authorities,” said Dennis Cooke, president and CEO, Morpho Detection, Inc. “We are confident in Itemiser DX’ ability to deliver the most advanced explosives detection possible to checkpoint, air cargo and checked bag screening at Italian airports.”
The desktop Itemiser DX is reliable, cost effective and easy to use. Utilizing Ion Trap Mobility Spectroscopy (ITMS™) to provide unparalleled threat detection, the Itemiser DX is optimal for checkpoint, air cargo and checked baggage screening.
Italian tests of the Itemiser DX took place in Rome in September with the authorization document being issued on Dec. 1, 2010.
In addition to its use by aviation security agencies around the world, Itemiser DX is available in a commercial version to help protect transportation, industrial and high-risk facilities and locations around the globe. It is the ideal complement to CT-based CTX 5800 and 9800 explosives detection systems for break-bulk and larger air cargo screening.
